Some hotels have heated indoor swimming pools, you need to check the brochure descriptions for any hotels that take your fancy.

There may be some with outdoor heated pools but the one I regularly go to in Limassol doesn't :o . I've seen plenty of people jump in and jump out again very quicky, not realising the water would be quite as cold as it was :rotfl: although you do see a few hardy souls!

A few years ago I went to "Alexander the Great" at Paphos, it had a good indoor pool. Hotel was fine.

Thanks for those, also not sure which part of the island to go to in Winter, prefer a mixture of nationalities and access to a big town or city for things to do when cloudy or very cool.

Richard, you might want to consider Paphos or Limassol. All of our holidays are taken in winter time, usually January/February, and 9 times out of 10 we got to Cyprus. Ayia Nappa and Protaras over on the east side are extremely quiet, very few places open during the winter. Limassol and Paphos are good bases for a winter holiday although Limassol is more the commercial centre and can look a bit tatty, but very well placed for touring. Paphos definitely geared towards the holiday maker and some would say probably over developed now.
  • Just come back from Pernera beach hotel, near Protaras and they had an indoor pool, lovely area too.

The Hotel Atlantica Golden Beach in Paphos looks nice, comes top in trip advisor and is a thomsons gold hotel if that's your thing. Can book it with Portland or Thomsons. You should be able to get full package for under £300 each in december, half board.

I regularly go to the Atlantica Hotel in Limassol and the Atlantica Golden Beach is a sister hotel, along with the Atlantica Bay in Limassol. Last time I was there I checked out the Golden Beach and it's a lovely hotel, I'm sure it's a Thomson Gold hotel. The only thing I would say is it's a bit remote, a fair bus ride if you want to get into Paphos itself. Also, Thomson do not book children into their Gold hotels but it doesn't mean it is totally child-free as other tour operators may book children in but there should be less children than in a non-Thomson Gold hotel.

The Atlantica in Limassol has just had a major refurbishment and what was the heated indoor pool has now become an adult only outdoor pool (not sure if still heated, possibly as the pool wasn't demolished but refurbed). By all accounts it should be even better than it was before (and that took some beating, many many repeat guests every winter and some staying 2 or 3 months) and we heard that Cyprus law doesn't allow a refurbished hotel to raise prices for two years so this winter should be a bargain - I've already booked my six weeks going January 2nd.
  • Larnaca is nice, quiet, but still has plenty to see and do and is a good base for getting anywhere else on the island except Paphos (2hrs drive!). It offers a good balance between being touristy and still retaining some character, especially its seafront promenade which is sort of Italian/Continental and not brash and tacky like Protaras. If you do go for larnaca, go for a decent hotel though as many are not of a great standard. The Sun Hall i think has an indoor pool, Golden Bay is outside of the town but is decent, as is the Palm Beach hotel.
