Credit rating potentially ruined by utility warehouse over £6

Earlier this year i moved home & went through the palava of trying to switch everything & as it was a new build, i was unable to take my talktalk phone service & utility warehouse electric and gas with me.
I was unaware i had £6 owing to utility warehouse & as they knew i had moved home, you would think they would have contacted me via mobile phone or email about this issue, but instead send letters to my old address, which i have only just discovered last week. They are threatening legal action & increased the sum to £9.
I have just spent 30 mins trying to pay this over the phone to their automated system & im getting hung up on randomly every time.
If this has ruined my credit rating ill be fuming, find it a bit cruel to make a big deal of £6, knowing we had moved house & not even give us a call or email. Very dissapointed & frustrated. Utility warehouse never again.
