Help - LX Direct & Business Express - Catch 22

I ordered an item from LX Direct.
Their delivery contract is with Business Express
Business Express attempted to deliver it on 2 evenings after 6pm (not in the day time when I am usually at home)
They gave a 3rd delivery date which was Saturday - but did not deliver on that date and I have heard nothing since. They do not answer the phone when I call them.
LX Direct have already debited my credit card.
I phoned LX Direct to find out what was going on (on an 0845 number so I have to pay for the call).
LX Direct say that the delivery company is nothing to do with them and I must make my own arrangements with them.
LX Direct will not cancel the order and refund me. hey say I must refuse the delivery from the delivery company before they will refund me. Which is very difficult if the delivery company don't answer the phone and don't deliver when they say they are going to .
The thing is that I do want my order - but not at the expense of this amount of hassle. As a new customer I will not continue to shop with LX Direct. :-X :-X >:(

I agree about Business Express, they are useless.
I make a point now when ordering anything to check which carrier they use, if it's Business Express I say forget it.
M&M sports use them and it took 5 weeks to eventually get my goods. When I complained to M&M I was told that if I ring them with any future orders they can arrange for Royal Mail to deliver, apparently when you order online it automatically selects Business Express as the carrier.0 -

Why take it out on LX Direct? they send your goods out by courrier and then it's between you and the courrier company.
Have you thought about leaving a note on the door asking deliveries to be left at a neighbours?0 -
The tip I gave on another thread is.... When you give over your address write on one of the lines that you would like the parce left ie: by intercom if no one in etc.......this practice works for me after many an argument with one delivery company.Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.
If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance. And finally, be really nice to your family and friends; you never know
when, You might need them to empty your bedpan.0 -

Because they selected that courier company and the courier company's contract is with them.0 -
