I have been chatting to a local Motability dealer (I've been on the scheme for years). I showed him my rather battered Motability car and asked him which bits of damage I need to repair before returning the car. He looked at the scratches, dents and bumps and said that they would all be fine. I have been expecting to have to make a claim on my insurance but as the damage is on all sides of the car I'd have a hard time justifying it as one claim.
The Motability dealer stated that, "Motability are very relaxed about the condition of the car being returned. I'll give you an example: I had a client who had a Motability car and someone had carved some foul language on the sides of the car. I rang up Motability and asked their advice. They asked if it was just a few scratches to which I said I'd send a photo. The Motability agent then saw the four letters, each a foot high, carved right into the doors with a chisel spelling a word I can't write on here (****). "Oh, I see what you mean", the Motability agent said. "Don't worry, accept it and send it in". The client didn't get their Good Condition Bonus [obviously!]."
So... ask your dealer whether you car is ok to hand back and if they are unsure then get them to ask Motability. My last Motability dealer didn't do this and instead told me that I had to go and have a small dent repaired, which cost me £250. Be warned!

Whenever I have leased a car they rather unreasonably expect it back as good as new.0
