This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning all!

Hope everyone had a pleasant evening. I went to bed early and watched 'The Real White Queen' which I love. Of course I'm up far too early again this morning ... sigh.

Today should be NSD. My mother's coming down to help me track down the source of the cat pee smell in the living room once the light and cleaning product come from @mazon sometime today. I dug out a Feliway diffuser last night in case William-cat is stressed although I'm still not convinced he's the source of the problem although he may be topping it up. Poor we guy had his spot-on worming treatment last night and has lost his purr. Think I might see if he'll take a tablet for the next dose ...

I dug out my spinning last night. I haven't touched it for over a year but do find it relaxing. Or at least I will once my hands remember how to do it!

  • Morning Laura and all to follow. Another silly o'clock wakening for me too. All I wish for is a reasonable waking up time.

After yesterday's beautiful day it seems another is forecast for today too. Summer is back! I washed the bedding at last that DS had used and will peg that out when it's light and I can see the washing line!

Just a shopping morning planned, but as I did a bigger shop than intended last week we don't need much today. Mainly fruit, veg and dairy. So a quick visit to Iceland and then Aldi next door should fix it. Then a trip to pick up my prescription. Whilst I was out yesterday the chemist delivered Mr TA's supplies of Fresubin (2 enormous boxes!), Oral morphine and his usual medication. Sadly he didn't have the foresight to include my supplies too! Grr!

I am going to make a pan of Corned Beef stew shortly so that will do for Mr TA's lunches for the next couple of days. He finds it easier eating stews, soups, broths etc rather than something on a plate, so I am happy to make whatever he prefers. As long as I don't have to share it, as I've never developed a liking for stews and broths!

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))) if needed and take care whatever you are up to xx

    Morning from me too.

Typing this from the comfort of my bed. Youngest has just gone to work and I'm not quite ready to start my day.

Had a rough weekend with hubby. Seems like he's done his usual thing when we hit a bad patch and chuck money at it rather than compromise a little bit. On Friday there is a reservation in a 4* hotel in Wales for a double room for us. Timing is completely wrong. I have Aunties funeral in the afternoon and Saturday evening I've promised my daughter I'd have my Grandson overnight.

Not only that I've been busy with Mom who took a turn for the worse on Monday. Back on 'end of life care' on Tuesday where she was taken off all medication, waiting for nature to take its course. I slept beside her on Tuesday night leaving her yesterday morning for a few hours before going back last night. Found out all medication had been withdrawn before I left but I'd been offering drinks all night which she was gracefully receiving and there was some improvement. The Gp was contacted and it was put to him that I thought it was petty to withdraw her thyroxine and sleeping tablets...so her meds have been reinstated as long as she can take them orally.

There has been lots of tears and hand holding. She is restless and last night was calling out for her Mom and Dad, hallucinating too. I left her after midnight when her sleeping tablet kicked in. Still restless though.

One good thing. Me, my brother and his girlfriend are talking. No choice really. They are still on block on Facebook though. They have been popping in and out. Seems to be leaving me to it which suits me.

Spent the evening in between caring for Mom chatting on Fb to our old friend Nar. It gave me something else to focus on other than Mom's wailing before her sleeping tablet kicked in.

Today I've got my Grandson. A welcome distraction. I've asked my son in law to pick him up straight from work though. He usually picks him up after he's been to the gym. I'll then spend the night with Mom. Well that's the plan anyway.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

  • Judi, I am so sorry about your Mum. I believe you are doing everything you can, just by being with her and hopefully she understands and finds you being there comforting.

Sending you hugs and strength to deal with what might lie ahead, and hopefully DH will understand.

    Much love

NJL, I hop you track down the smell.
    Hugs to TA & Judi
I lost another 1.5lbs last night so I'm still going in the right direction.
I had a visit from my youngest DS y'day, he wants me to feed his GF's cats for 2 weeks.
I'm so proud of him, he's a firefighter & just applied & been accepted to be a co-responder, sort of a mini paramedic as the ambulance service in our area is overstretched. He already can use a defibrillator etc but will now have extra training as well.
time I set off for work.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • So sorry to hear about your mum, Judi. (((((Hugs))))) to you both.

William and I are washed, fed and, in my case, dressed :) DW and WM are on. House is tidy. Hopefully the @mazon delivery will come soon so I can get started on the living room carpet but they don't usually deliver here till lunchtime. I'm not a patient creature.

Bannocks! I forgot to make bannocks yesterday so that'd better be my next trick ...

    Good morning everyone

I've just read your post Judi and I wanted to say how much I admire you for taking such good care of your mum even when you haven't had the easiest of relationships in the past. It must mean a lot to your mum to have you with her and I'm glad that there is a truce with the rest of your family. I will be thinking of you and praying for a peaceful outcome for her when the time comes.

It is a dry day here so far but rain is forecast later on. I have washing to do but I think I will tumble it. I am cooking some meatballs and pasta for everyone's tea tonight, I am still recovering from yesterday's menu, I can't believe how disgusting I found haggis to be and I quite like offal generally. It made me gag and also I roasted some celeriac, yukkity yuk. The whole meal was a disaster really and it gave me rampant tummy ache too. Hubby manfully ploughed through it but asked me nicely not to cook that again :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

I am on my own again today as hubby has managed to go to work this morning. I am expecting deliveries though and will phone my friend to see if she is free for a coffee. I also have some dessert pastry in the fridge so will put my thinking cap on and see what I can make with it. I think I have the ingredients for a lemon tart but I will double check before I start baking.

Anyway, that's all from me for now, hope you have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone.

Strangely foggy outside, the sea side is covered in thick fog but the back has none at all. Hopefully it'll burn off and be a fine day.

My car passed the MOT and my teaching session went well. The group struggled to make folders and sub folders but seemed to get the hang of it towards the end. I've set them 'homework' and we'll recap next week.

Today is a day of rest, nothing on my agenda until the late afternoon / early evening when I'll start to make contact with some of my big class of students.

Judi - so sorry to read about your mother. Your description took me right back to 1997 when I did the same for my beloved father. My thoughts are with you and your mum.

TA - lovely to read about some little good news from you about your DH.

HH - congrats on the weight loss.

Right, off to start my day. Porridge for breakfast and some bolognaise mince for later. I had one glass of wine when I got home last and watched GBBO which I had recorded, another glass may be drunk tonight.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Thursday.
  • Morning All

Lovely day yesterday and all washing dried on the line, even put some out about 5pm and it was nearly dry. Not so good this morning, drizzly but light cloud.

Cut the grass when I got in from work and then tackled the stairs. Managed to sand them all - what a mess, back to the dust in the house! My idea was to have painted sides with a runner carpet and stair rods but the stairs are in quite a poor state with all the nail holes, etc so I may have a full width carpet. Sometimes you just have to compromise!
They are all ready for painting but that's a job I can do over a week or so so will make a start tomorrow - it's my hospice shift tonight so wont get anything done this evening.

Big hugs to you Judi, such a difficult time.
HH - Well done on the weight loss and a big congrats to your DS.

Just got some rugs to dry, will put them in the conservatory out of the way, they can take their time to dry. DW emptied and PL of salad and jelly made.

Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX
  • Just popping back on, now the stew is on and the washing is out, to give JUDI a big ((HUG)). Whatever the outcome my thoughts are with you and at least it seems to have brought you and your DB a bit closer xx
