    Take a look here.........

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk

They know what they're doing, so look at their PC specs and try to match.

A PC for spreadsheets is simple, just bang any old junk together.

Building gaming PCs is a science, if every component is not working harmoniously with the next (both hardware and software), then it'll just keep crashing out when playing games.

DO NOT skimp on the power supply if you're going for a card like the 970...you'll need a MINIMUM 500W PSU to run one of them, bigger would be better (600W plus)...

Depends on what brand you are talking about. It is not just 'the bigger the better'

    Overclockers usually more expensive

my apologies on the 960 to 970 comment, im sure i had read the reviews which showed only a small margin difference, but hey ho, guess my mind is playing tricks
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Always something better just around the corner. Nvidia will be releasing the Pascal architecture next year on 16nm finfet which is supposed to be up to 10x (hmm we'll see) the performance of Maxwell.

In previous generations, the x60 card has actually been pretty decent when it comes to price/performance, and not far from the x70

Unfortunately the 960 didn't follow that trend, for budget, the 770 is available for a similar price and beats the 960, but the extra for the 970 is well worth it. No real reason to go higher unless you plan to run much higher res like 4k or triple monitors

yes branding, but when the power draw of the 970 is listed as 150W on its own, depending on the rest of the system I would want a reasonable safety margin in my PSU rather than stress the whole system ;)

Also, I'd be checking on the 12v rail's current limit regardless of brand - some can be worryingly under-powered....

  • Pfft, just get an Alienware Alpha, boot Windows 7 instead of Steam OS, and hook it to your TV or buy a monitor. Its compact, awesome and you can upgrade to an SSD if needed. Direct from Dell is cheapest, or you can pay monthly via Very.co.uk for the same RRP price.

On the never, never for a very (get the pun) unreasonable 40% APR.
