Windows 10 upgrade problem

I have a Toshiba U400-13r laptop that originally had visa installed. I upgraded to windows 7 and now keep getting the free windows 10 upgrade notification.
When I try to upgrade I get the error message:
0xC1900101 -0x20017
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation
I have tried to install windows 10 by clicking the free upgrade link and also by downloading windows 10 to a usb key but neither way works.
I have noticed (and this could be the cause of my problem) that my laptop should have two hard drives installed with different drive letters? It used to have this with windows vista. But after installing windows 7 it just shows the C drive with 107gb free of 186gb.
For some reason windows 7 has combined the two drives
Any help please?

There maybe a hidden restore partition still on the drive, have you checked the drive manager?

Vista used to be installed in two drives, C: and
but Win7 would have been on a single drive. Load Win7 as normal then from the USB key run the setup as administrator. Worth a try
Failing that try to catch Nifty Digits0 -
I have tried running as administrator from a usb key and also disabling the Kaspersky internet security.
My upgrade from vista to windows 7 ultimate was a gift from Nifty0 -
It appears to have more than one possible cause related to drivers or HW with a w10 upgrade.
