Such as the first signs of soon-to-be-terminal galloping structural rot?
:rotfl:
Come on now, stop being so dramatic! Many cars out there have welded patches on without then going on to needing a chassis rebuild over the next few MOTs.
Ops basically paying a couple hundred quid for another 12 months of car.... can you tell me where op could buy a car at a similar price to the cost of work that could see the same likely outcome?! No you cant0 -
what about this idea?
can be used as a little van?? if yes, how can you do that? documents?
just curious
If there are no seats present, there are no seatbelts needed or testable.0 -

And a heck of a lot more get a few hundred quid thrown at pigeon-pooing a couple of patches to the visible symptoms, then get scrapped at the next MOT, when it's clear that the same again - or more - will be needed, because all you've done is mask the symptom.
If the belt mounts are that rotten, has water ingress got into the rear of the sills? What about the seam between inner and outer rear arches? Rear suspension front mounts?Ops basically paying a couple hundred quid for another 12 months of car...
It shouldn't be hard to buy something with a new MOT for pretty much the same price. One that hasn't already had to meet Mr MIG.0 -
If it was me I would probably get it fixed up this year (an additional year of cheap motoring) then take the car in 30 days before the MOT expires next year and assess my options and costs.
In the meantime start saving for a new car in the next year or so.0 -
Thanks for the answers everyone!
Now I'm thinking about to take back the car to the garage without rear seats. I don't mind using it with only 2 seats till I fix it as I'm only using the car to get to work and shopping, like 10-15 miles per day.
Would it be enough to take out the seats or have to take out the belts too? I've read both.0 -

Bear in mind, also, that the car may still fail because the rot may well fall within 30cm of other "prescribed areas", including suspension mounts or the front seat mounts, or be deemed to substantially weaken the body.0
