PPI Claiming when I don't have any info and have had different surnames/addresses

Hi - I am really new to this, and don't know anything about how to claim.

I may have been mis-sold but it may have been under a previous surname (I have been married more than once), and at a different addresses, and I don't know who my lenders were?

I have had a number of store cards, credit cards, mortgages (including endowment mortgage) and also I am sure I had CPP, some of which date back to 1980s.

Would it be worth asking one of the claim handling companies to deal with it for me?

What can I do?
Thanks

The claim handling companies only work with the information that you provide them with so if you don't know the lender, your name or address, or whether you even had PPI or not then they certainly won't.

    mortgages (including endowment mortgage)

Endowments dont have PPI. So, that fact it was an endowment mortgage doesnt matter.

Why do you think a CMC would be of benefit to you? After all, they dont have access to info. You have to supply it to them.

  • I didn't know any of the lenders or the details, but made some guesses and the claims company I used sent me some forms to fill in. I didn't know any of the account details, the years, or even whether I had had a loan or credit card with that particular lender but they still managed to get me:
£1680 from Barclaycard dating back to 1997. I hadn't even remembered having a Barclaycard in the past!
£590 from Lloyds Bank (I had remembered that I had a loan with them and they may have used my current bank account number to help, but I didn't have any information about this loan)
£420 from a credit card (Halifax possibly) which again was old and I hadn't provided them with any details, or even remembered I had it.
All I gave them were all of my previous addresses, plus previous name. That was it.
For that reason I would say in my case I think it was worth using a PPI company, despite the percentage they took from it. I wouldn't have had anything at all otherwise (having not even remembered having a Barclaycard all those years ago!)
That said, I am not going to start doing a claim for my Mum, and will be doing that myself rather than through a PPI company as she knows that she has only ever borrowed through Barclays.

The same forms which most providers have on their websites or the generic FOS form which is available free of charge.

I would say in your case you were conned twice. Once with PPI and again with PPI reclaiming. You paid a CMC for putting a stamp on an envelope containing a form you filled out. That is the extent of the work they did. You could have posted the same form to the providers yourself and got the same outcome.
