Shredder making a bad noise should I oil?

Hi All
Just doing some shredding of stuff and the shredder is making a real bad noise should I be oiling it? I have some wd40 but i dont know if i would break it by doing this?

If you Google it, it says time and time again not to use WD40, though there are some replies on forums saying it's OK.

Up to you I suppose.

Prices for shredder oil seem to come in around £7-£10 on the web.

Your workplace must use some for their shredders, if you get my drift.

It does make a difference.

i might use some hair cutter oil!
My little nursery that i work for don't have a shredder so i cant do what you are suggesting!

It just could be that the cutters are a bit clogged up if you let the bin get too full. We get this sometimes. Switch off and pull plug and try cleaning them by just pulling out the bits. MAKE SURE TOTALLY SWITCHED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM ELECTRICITY! I would recommend sewing machine oil or similar like hair cutters (silicone spray from Lidls maybe?) gb

i have cleaned out the cutters so i will give them a slugg of oil and get back to shredding, as my composter needs some paper in it!
