O/S Daily Wednesday 16th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, dull, overcast, and not so windy, air feels much cooler again.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was a late one, we had fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, salad, tonight we’ll be using up the LO’s of roast, but there’s not much meat so will have to do some extra meat, so I need to organise that later and we need some more milk.

Work yesterday was very slow to start with, then got very busy then went very quiet again, so not sure what today will bring. Only working until lunchtime then on days’ off – have quite a list of jobs to do, so will get cracking with them once I’m home.

Dirty wash basket is full, as I haven’t done any washing this week, as the forecast was so awful and the last 2 days haven’t been too bad at all here, so I missed 2 days of good outdoor drying weather, so today will put a load in WM shortly and put it out on the line, and deal with it later.

Keep safe and well x

  • Thanks for the new thread :)

One of these days I'll sleep till 6am and call it a long lie. Woke up at 4:30am this morning :(

It looks a lovely morning here in Glasgow. I think all I need to buy is some milk which I forgot to get yesterday. Plan for the day involves the Gnome coming to fit a new waste on the bathroom sink, a phone call about therapeutic gardening, bit of FlyLady, making bannocks and starting to prep for winter. Today I'm going to write my list of things to gather and see what I've already got.

Hope you all have a pleasant, OS day :)

    Morning All

Dry and bright, washing will go out when it's done.

Thanks for all your good wishes yesterday, had a lovely meal in a carribean restaurant, different food and tried plantain for the first time (the chips were like banana fritters!).

Nothing much done yesterday at home, need to make a start on the stairs (groan).

    Welcome to Chickens11.

    Good news csarina.

    Take care. XX
  • Morning one and all. The makings of a nice day here. Yesterday I got the towels out on the line after all but what a chilly wind. Thoughts of winter ahead is depressing me even more.

Great news CSARINA. Welcome to the Daily thread SHEILA. Nice to meet you.

I am having an away-day with my friend today. Only on the bus to Skipton, where we go every 3 weeks or so, for a browse of the market and charity shops. With a nice lunch and bottle of wine to sustain us. It makes a nice change.

I am leaving Mr TA stocked up with energy drinks, snacks and a lunch of Spag Bol. The new eating regime (energy drinks, high fat snacks and small meals) seems to be working. After months and months of losing weight week by week. he got on the scales yesterday to find he had put 1 lb on. Not a lot I know but after losing weight week by week this is a big achievement and I hope it keeps going up.

DS called up yesterday to collect his stuff and bring us up to date on developments. He'd told his GF he would only come back if she promised to get help. It was a yes. True to her word, she saw her doctor yesterday morning, told him everything (we hope) and is being referred to the Mental Health Team. I just hope she can come to terms with her issues from childhood that have plagued her all her life. As I've said before, in between these eruptions she can be lovely. If only she was like that all the time. Fingers crossed she can be helped.

Well breakfast calling and then better make myself look presentable. Have a good day all (((((HUGS))))) if needed and take care all xx

    Morning all,

Raining again here looks set in for the day I am off to work but only till lunchtime as DD has a hospital appointment about her jaw, it seizes up every now and then and she cannot open her mouth and really hurts so she is off to see a consultant this afternoon.

Noodles is still here, we had a bad day yesterday she was supposed to go to mums for the day but when we dropped her off she went berserk and tried to jump through the windows etc to get to us, poor little girl was so distressed, she only seems happy in our house :( which is not possible when we are out all day, I have phoned the dog woman who is trying to sort it for us, noodles nearly had my mum over several times by rushing around.

Omelette and bread and butter for dinner tonight with some salad nice and quick once we get in.

Hester I do hope the little one is ok, and that the scan goes well xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

My morning walks with Scampi have been a nightmare again. My leg was agony yesterday when we got home. Mr tru says it's all fine with him, so I watched them leave the house a couple of times - he pulls on the lead and mr tru doesn't do anything about it. Of course Scampi is 'behaving', he isn't ignoring a command because he's not being told in the first place! At least I know what's causing it now – I knew anyway really, but have seen it now. He's also not sticking to the rules from the behaviourist at home so Scampi won't behave for him indoors most of the time. He listens to me in the house though. I'm leaving walks to him for now, I just can't cope with it.

Cleo Chick has started jumping over the fence into the garden – she's not daft, she never does it when Scampi is out there :D She does it around an hour before it gets dark, which is when I feed them corn. Perhaps she thinks I'm going to forget and this is how she reminds me, lol. I now have to check where she is before letting Scampi out. The new chicken run is going to have to built sooner than planned.

I didn't get anything done yesterday, my leg was too sore to do anything. It's still stiff this morning but moving around is a bit easier so I'll potter about today, catch up with a few jobs then see how it feels later.

    Morning everyone.

We've got watery blue skies here but not much warmth yet. Yesterday I risked hanging out a small wash and got it dried. The evening was cold, or it may just have been me being good. Temp was only two degrees less than a comfortable evening but I felt chilly.

I zipped into the nearest town to pick up a couple of things and was back home before 10am. If I leave it later the canal locks get busy and I get held up at two swing bridges. Then I had to download Skype on the laptop and set it up - there's a new version since I used it last - and got a friend to test it. Despite living in a remote area it worked well.

This morning is MOT and service time for my car. That means that I'll be sitting in our local museum for a couple of hours. Luckily they have wifi and good coffee to keep me amused. Then it'll be back into town to collect an order I placed at the chemist, collect eight laptops ready for teaching tonight and then home for a few hours before the class.

I've been prepping for winter too in a small way. Loads of logs in the big barn, supply of logs in the wee barn, bags of kindling ready, piles of paper all stacked neatly and a good supply of matches. I've changed all the batteries in the torches and refitted the head torch to my head. :rotfl: Hopefully the new windows will do the trick as well.

TA - great to hear your efforts are beginning to pay off. Every pound gained is excellent news.

My day starts now so a shower it is. Will have 'breakfast' in the museum though it'll probably be a scone as they don't do breakfast.

I hope everyone enjoys their day.

Red Ruby maybe its time to let Noodles go you have done a fantastic job of starting the healing process but she needs some intense therapy by the sound of it
TA sounds like things are going in the right direction for DH and Ds
Dinner tonight chicken kiev and rostis with beans
Have a great day whatever you are up to
  • Good morning everyone.

Csarina glad to hear the good news.
    TA enjoy your day out.
RR hope all goes well at the hospital.

It has started out another grey day here so now washing out on the line yet. It brightened up here yesterday so I was able to get my washing dry. DS2 came back from holiday in Germany yesterday so I have extra washing so I hope the weather does improve as I don't have a tumble dryer as back up any more. I've got a bin liner full of grandson's old clothes to take to the charity shop and a box full of carpet off cuts to take to the tip.

I shall probably give the fridge a clear out and clean while cooking this afternoon. Shepherds pie for tea followed by plum crumble with some YS plums from MrT's.

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Good afternoon everyone :hello:

It's staying dry here for the moment but it's forecast to pour down just as the kids are walking home from school. Did any of mine take a coat? Ha! Apparently they all had too much to carry .

Poor hubby is home with a bad back, he came home early yesterday and is laid up with pain killers. If it is no better tomorrow he is off to the doctors. I'm no better as I have a really sore tum so we are both sat here like a pair of old crocks.

I'm waiting for a musclefood delivery and then I need to shoe horn it into a freezer. I hope it comes soon and then I can go and have a lie down before the girls get back. I need to prepare all the veg for tea as well but at least I can sit down at the table and do that.

Hope you all have a great afternoon whatever you are up to, take care xx
