Solar Fit payments

Options
I've had solar pans for the last couple of years and I had my gas and electricity through Scottish Power, they also sort my FIT payments.
What I want to know is can I change my gas and electricity supplier, but do I also have to change who does the FIT or not?
Thanks

No you can remain with SP for your FIT payments and move gas/electricity to any company.
  • Great, thanks!

Can I add a bit to the question?

I feel now a bit of a wally-possibly! Having instigated a switch to a smaller cheaper supplier for my fuel (gas and leccy) we have now decided to install solar PV whilst there is still a decent FIT payment only to find that the new supplier is not a FIT licensee. Still have a day to cancel the switch or can cancel post switch at no cost but a time delay.......

So my question really is what should I do? Can I get FIT from another licensee or need I switch/cancel again?

Advice on official websites regarding fit application seem to be contradictory but I still have a short time to change direction, if possibly a little late. Doh!!

You can go to any company that will accept you for your FIT payments, and don't need to go to them for your gas/electricity.

I did read somewhere that one major company(Eon??) is not accepting any new FIT applicants.

I suggest you contact the major companies(BG etc) and ask them.

Hi. Have a read of section 9 of the PV FAQs.

As a rule, the Big Six have to accept anyone for FiTs, unless they already have an energy account with one of the other 'Big Six'. In which case they can decline if they want.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • I do feel a real Wally now! I had not considered that thread! Thanks for the pointer and the post Mart
  • ....and can I now add that the threads you have directed me to are really appreciated.

    Hi Cardew

Thought I'd pop on and confirm, we're currently only offering to support Feed-in-Tariffs for existing E.ON customers or if their present supplier isn't a mandatory FIT Licensee (these are on Ofgem's website under Registered FIT Licensed Suppliers). An exception, though, is where customers aren't connected to the National Grid.

This change came in a couple of years back but doesn't affect customers with us before this time.

Hope this explains and maybe saves someone a wasted phone call.
