Hi everybody,

My dad has asked me what the problem could be with his laptop. It's a Dell laptop with Windows 8.1. What happens is when it is charging the screen is bright but when dad switches off the charger it goes dim. The battery is fully charged but the screen keeps going dim.

Thank you very much.

Different brightness settings in the BIOS for mains/ battery? ( Applies to DELL D610 anyway).

Brightness is usually set lower for battery use.

It's not a 'problem', simply a setting. In Control Panel there is a Power Settings option. You can change power settings to control when and by how much the screen dims under mains power or battery.

Under power options in the control panel, click on the power plan that is currently in use (usually called "dell") and then inside there, there are 2 brightness sliders .. One for "plugged in" and one for "battery" ..

Slide the battery one up to the top if you require full brightness when using battery
(be aware this will drain his battery faster obviously)
