I wonder how eon will cope when it goes wrong, their complaints don't give a dam
Sounds like you've had a really bad experience with us chanz4. Sorry if you have. We take every complaint seriously and have a definite path in place to either resolve it or take customers to the Ombudsman.
Complaints first go to a Resolution Manager who'll investigate what's happened. They'll offer a resolution but, if you're unhappy with this, you can have it reviewed by a separate team. The Reviewers will go through the complaint again looking at it from both yours and our point of view. They'll either uphold the original offer or suggest an alternative. If you're still unhappy, we'll issue a 'Final Resolution Offer' letter to help with the Ombudsman. Where complaints are over 56 days old, customers can go to the Ombudsman straightaway. No need to wait for a letter.
This is explained when a complaint's first raised. It's also confirmed in writing and there's a section on our website about it too. Not sure how far you're along this road. Even if it's an old complaint, it can be re-opened and back dated to when first raised.
Sorry again you're unhappy with us chanz4. If you haven't already, I'd follow this path.

I've still had no communication from Extra Energy about my tariff ending. I'm on about 32 days from the end. I waited and didn't switch in order not to get into arguments with Extra about the exit fee.
I take it I am safe to switch now with no letter?
I could seem to find energyhelplines collective switch0 -

From the supplier's standard licence:
Standard condition 22C. Fixed Term Supply Contracts 22C.4
The licensee must:
(a) provide a Domestic Customer with a copy of the SLC 22C Statement of
Renewal Terms which complies with paragraph 22C.3 no earlier than 49 days
and no later than 42 days before the fixed term period of their Fixed Term
Supply Contract is due to end;
Prohibition on termination fees for non compliance
22C.6 Where the licensee fails to comply with paragraphs 22C.2 to 22C.5 and extends
the duration of an existing Fixed Term Supply Contract for a further fixed term
period, the licensee may not charge or otherwise seek to enforce a Termination
Fee in respect of that Domestic Supply Contract.
In sum, no notification is a licence breach. The supplier cannot charge a termination fee.
