keyboard, monitor and mouse problems

Options
Hi

The problem: My keyboard, mouse and monitor do not work on my desktop. All I have done is unplug them and plug them back in the same spaces and as they are colour coded it was easy to do. I checked each one with my laptop and very old desktop and they were fine.

Fortunately the mouse was plugged in using an adapter which I have now removed and just plugged it in as a usb and it now works. As for the monitor there are two spaces where that can be plugged in and only one where it now doesn’t work. As for the keyboard well there is only one space for it as it isnt a usb one and that doesn’t seem to work. The layout of these is sort of like this on the back of the desktop:

Keyboard Mouse
Monitor

And above and below are various other places were inputs and output devices can be plugged in and all these work, it is just these three slots which do not work.

When first encountered the problem I unplugged everything again just plugged the monitor in the other slot and that worked. The start up screen said something like “Keyboard error or no Keyboard” press f1 to continue or escape. So I pressed f1 and it worked. But when windows had loaded the keyboard wouldn’t work and the mouse only did when I plugged it in as a usb. Now I am faced with the problem that if I restart the computer I may get the same message and F1 will not work and I wont be able to get access to the desktop again until I get a usb keyboard but I need the usb slots for other things as well like game controller, digital camera, printer, web cam etc yes these arent necessary and can be worked around but I want to know what I can do to fix the connections on the back of the desktop that is if they are fixable.

It is just odd that the three bits that don’t seem to work are right by each other so any input as to what I can do would be greatly appreciated. Oh and if I need to clarify anything just tell me as I realise I haven’t explained it all too well.

If you have 2 video ports (onboard as well as graphics card), then only one will work.

If you remove kb/mouse, then you normally have to reboot to pick them up,

if you plug the mouse and keyboard into the correct ps2(round) ports, and boot, what happens?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • :rotfl:Yeah all i needed to do was reboot with them plugged in. Thanks.

I was just worried as when i tried it with the old PC it didnt require a reboot for them to work.
