Equifax took money without providing service! Help!

Can anyone help a fool please?
This is historic but I've finally plucked up the courage to try again and get my money back (if possible).
I tried to sign up for Equifax free month credit report in October 2013. I used an old credit card I didn't regularly use for the direct debit, proceeded through the personal information and then got questions based on recent banking etc. I then had a response saying that Equifax could not locate me and needed me to make contact via phone for further information and to open the account. I went to a competitor (Experian) instead online and this time got all my information up quickly without the hassle, so proceed with them.
In June 2014 I finally realised that Equifax had charged every month for their credit score service, despite me never completing the sign-up and them not being able to locate me/provide my information! I called to complain and was told that as I had logged in on one occasion to the account (presumably when purchasing the account and finding they could not locate me as I never did at any other point) I had used their service and so was not entitled to any refund!
I know many of you may be thinking it was idiot tax and I should have checked my credit card statement a lot earlier to see this charge, but I honestly didn’t think to as far as I was concerned I had not completed the registration process due to them not being able to provide me with my information.
Does anyone have any advice on what my rights are? Would I be able to pursue anything via the credit card company (card is closed now however)?
Any advice without too much abuse would be much appreciated
Kind regards
Tom

Your Quote: "I went to a competitor (Experian) instead online and this time got all my information up quickly without the hassle, so proceed with them."

I too have bitter experience....with Experian's CreditExpert.
They allowed fraudulent access to all my details (an employee, the police agreed, may be to blame) and the first I knew about it was a BILL from them for access I had never made. My bank accounts were fleeced using the CreditExpert / Experian information...amazing how easy they allowed someone to get it!
I'm sure that if you write to Equifax through Martin's RESOLVER link www.resolver.co.uk you will get a better result.
Personally i feel that these companies should be very closely monitored...CreditExpert at the time told me that they had "a lot of fraudulent applications for credit reports"...how many other innocents have been the victims of Credit Report Frauds???
Good Luck!
