Hi...we bought good Bosch W machine 12month ago...then realised we hadn't ordered the dryer version...we have advertised twice...no takers...maybe people don't like to buy these things 2nd hand. Any ideas how to minimise loss when buying new washer?...? cash-back schemes?? thanks...great machine otherwise

How much are you trying to sell it for? Perhaps you're pricing it too high, I wouldn't pay more than £50.

  • If you have facebook have you tried advertising it on a local selling group? I often see washing machines on our local group and they usually sell quite fast.
  • If all else fails buy a TD or better still if you have the room an airer
  • Sounds like you're asking for too much. A second hand washing machine is generally worth no more than £75.

Have you tried looking for companies that buy and sell second hand white goods?
Near me there is one called Second Hand City.. not sure if they are everywhere, might be worth a google

  • Try Gumtree. There is quite a good trade there. I picked it up in my car, but most people selling seem to offer free delivery and plumbing, but considering that plumbing usually consists of just screwing a hose into an existing fitting it is hardly difficult. The prices being asked range from £60 to about £150, so well worth a try in my view.

Wow - that makes all those people who bid on my last one (it was just out of 12 months guarantee - at the time I even put a link to the Currys page for the new ones for the description) mugs.
Or your price is bottom end for machines of the age of the OPs and mine.
Went for somewhere north of £150 on ebay ... and no, it wasn't a super expensive brand (Hoover - retail new IIRC around the low £300s)

When I bought my basic model for £75 I saw some second hand washing machines advertised on Gumtree for over £200 but I suspect they will not get that for them.
  • I would expect to pay under £100 for a second hand machine, even if it is only 12 months old. After all, people only have the seller's word for it that it is in good working order ...

Doesn't it just. I wouldn't ever pay that for a second hand machine, not in a million years. But them being mugs worked out well for you!
