I am switching from BG to EoN.
Scheduled to go through on 2nd October 2015. My DD goes out on 28th to BG.
This will put me in credit with BG. How soon can I get it back? Will I just request it back through my online account?
Will I still be able to access my online BG account?

You should get a final bill from BG using the same meter readings as the start meter readings for your EoN - you give EoN the readings when they request them and they give them to BG.
When I left BG my access to the on-line account finished immediately.
In theory BG should not take your normal DD on 28 Sept, as they are aware that you are leaving, but take the final amount by DD after notifying you on the bill.
However, although not strictly correct, I personally would instruct my bank to cancel the DD mandate including for the 28th, and pay BG the final amount on the phone/by cheque.0 -
But won't they then switch him to the standard tariff and the higher costs that would incur?0

Just as soon as the old supplier has prepared the final bill.
Hopefully, if the final bill does show you are owed money by the supplier, it will incude details of how & when this will be refunded to you. If it doesn't, then give them a call to find out.
You may well lose your access to the online account when you are no longer supplied by them, or possibly even when they become aware you are leaving them. In such instance, the final bill will be provided to you by alternative means, usually by post.0 -

The risk is exactly as you infer. Technically, the OP's switch has not got through by the 28th and, more importantly, it may not actually go through on the stated date. I have just had a switch which should have gone through on the 1st July take until the 17th August to complete. I left my DD in place and was refunded the credit in full last Friday. The delayed switch also resulted in an erroneous estimated usage figure ( within industry guidelines - hence no dispute) which means that I have paid the old supplier for kWhs of gas that are unlikely to be delivered in full until the middle of November. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
