O/S Daily Tuesday 15th September 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, dull, overcast, and windy, air feels much cooler again.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Dinner last night was beef casserole that I’d left cooking all day in the slow cooker, made some dumplings to go with it and I’d put some new HG potatoes in it too from our garden, I just served some mixed vegetables with it. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
Yesterday at work was very busy doing the job that I was doing, and the general office was busy too, then it eased off in the afternoon but by that time it was nearly 3pm, so we had time to catch up. Today I’m at my normal office instead of the office in the next town, so we’ll see what happens.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
I'm off to work soon, hubby is still in bed, he didn't finish until really late last night, I've taken him a cuppa & fed the fish.
My DD phoned last night to tell me that my great niece Jess has relapsed only 3 months after getting the all clear from leukaemia! She's only 4 years old.
DD's husband is having a brain scan on Thursday, so I'm keeping fingers crossed for him too.
Enough of my worries.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
HH - Poor little Jess, I hope there's better news soon. You must be worried about DDs OH too, big hugs to you.
RR - Your FIL is being very unkind. I take my hat off to you giving Noodles the love and care she needs, I hope you find a solution soon.
Dry and bright this morning so will put the washing out before I go off to work. It started raining at lunch time yesterday when I was at work so thought the washing would be soaked but it hadn't been raining here so it was nice and dry.
DW emptied and salad made up for lunch. Did a few paperwork jobs last night but really didn't have the energy to do much else. I must start on the stairs soon, perhaps an hour an evening would be good, have to do it quite early otherwise the sander will annoy the neighbours.
Meeting DD for dinner, it's 10 years today since my DH passed away and we always go out for a meal to celebrate. Will message DS2 as well. Would do the same for DS1 but don't have a contact number for him.
Hope you have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Dull morning here and I've been told that I missed a lovely day yesterday.
It was just manic for me yesterday, never stopped from 7am until I left Glasgow at about 3pm. Must have done roughly 10 different 'chores' for my mum. Non-stop. The drive home was a restful time.
Today I have a few things to sort out here but nothing like dashing around between hospitals and shops like yesterday. I anticipate a busy but peaceful day, if that makes sense!
Tomorrow my car has its MOT so I must empty it out. The back seat has become a sort of storage area, from water bottles to at least three coats and assorted rubbish. The boot is still stuffed with my Costco purchases so that needs attended to also.
It's the usual porridge for breakfast and I'll need to drive into town for other food.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Camelot - what a lovely thing to do.0 -
Hi everyone,
How terrible Hester, I hope things go well for your DD's DH.
I desperately wanted to go back to sleep when DH's alarm woke me this morning but couldn't. Maybe I'll have a nap later.
I made the apple and blackberry jelly which has turned out really well, last year's was a bit too thick. I also put the sloe gin in to steep, I felt embarrassed buying 4 bottles of gin in Aldi.
I just have the rosemary and crabapple jelly to make, rosemary from the garden so with both the jellies the only expenditure has been on sugar and electricity (and of course my time). By my reckoning the apple and blackberry has cost about 30p per pot.
I also managed to get some cleaning done and sorted out the fridge, getting rid of quite a few pots lurking in the back. Does anyone else have the problem of bits of chutney, horseradish and other sauces which they can't bear to throw out but never seem to get used, how do you solve it?
I'd like to do the freezer today if I can but I also want to finish the quilting on a patchwork quilt I've made. I've also got a gas engineer coming to service the boiler.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning one and all. A dismal wet start here so I guess today's wash load (a mountain of hand and bath towels) will be dried indoors!
Well it looks as though my fears are justified. DS said he and the gf were going to have a talk last evening to try and sort something out. He said he had some things he wanted to say and if she didn't like it he would be straight back. I set him up with a big tea of smothered chicken, salad, chips and peas and off he went. It looks as though she was all sweetness and light and agreeable to anything he said, cos he didn't come back and must have gone to work this morning from there. So he'll be coming to collect his stuff later and going back to her yet again. I worry about him but he's old enough at 40 to know what he's doing. Who knows this might be the turning point if she is agreeable to seeking help with her demons. Well I can live in hope!! And at least Roxy dog will have given him a rapturous welcome.
I had a very busy and profitable afternoon yesterday. I swapped all my summer stuff into the back wardrobe, to replace my winter stuff which I brought into the front one. I was ruthless and filled 2 charity bags with bags, shoes, boots and clothes which I am sure I will never wear. It's stupid hanging on to stuff that never sees the light of day. I really must get looking for some more trousers and skirts for winter though, as I seem to have ended up with so few. I hate clothes shopping too as I can never see anything I like.
REDRUBY I'm so sorry it's not going to work out with Noodles. Your FIL sounds a right pain (I'd use another word but I'm being polite!) When the time is right for you I'm sure another dog will come along for you to love.
Have a good day all ((((((HUGS)))))) if you need them and take care xx
ps cross-posting. HH what sad news re Jess. Hope DD's DH is ok. CAMELOT Have a lovely meal with DD. What a lovely idea."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Pouring with rain here Noodles does not like the rain ! and had to be pushed out for a wee this morning. I still keep wracking my brains thinking of a way we can help her, she really is a loveable dog.
Camelot hugs to you today a day full of memories for you I think xx
Off to work today, mum I having the dog for the day at her house, I wlll drop her off before work.
Flambe for dinner tonight with new potatoes and salad, and I must do an online shop.
Right better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning everyone, use the work good in a social sense not a weather one! Bucketed down here on and off all night, like being inside a big drum so we're both a bit jaded. Off to sit on the Zebra this morning and won't be near a computer until Friday afternoon so look after yourselves and I'll catch up on all your news then.
HESTER so much to cope with all at once, I hope the outcome for both of them is good.
REDRUBY you are a star and Noodles will be in a much better case for rehoming because of all you've done for her and I'm certain that Little Dog will find you a new canine pal, I guess Noodles is a special one and Little Dog saw the need to involve you for Noodles sake, you'll do the right thing for her.
Have yourselves a good day all and stay dry if you can, I'm keeping that Zebra home tomorrow, the forecast looks abysmal and walking to nursery will only result in both of us getting soaked twice!!! Lyn xxx.0 -
Good morning everyone
After yesterday's downpour it has cheered up and is now sunny and quite warm already. I had a lovely lie in and didn't get up till 7.30. I had a shower and got dressed and then put some washing on. I'm currently driving the dog mad by cooking some bacon too.
Oh Hester, I'm so sorry to hear about Jess. I can't understand why these things happen to such innocent little ones. Sending her and her parents a load of hugs and prayers.
I have bought a haggis much to my daughters disgust so I will be cooking that for tea for me and hubby. The girls will have pasta bake I guess. I also want to do some baking but there is still a bit of cake left in the tin. I have bought nigellas christmas book for a 1p from Amazon second hand so I will be looking through that later as well.
Well, my bacon is calling me so I will love you and leave you, take care xx0 -
Good Morning all and <<<hugs>>> to all who are sad, down, worried or just blue.
Weather is looking a bit sad as well as its raining and very grey looking at the moment .Looks like the winter is here chums.
I am trying to prolong getting my winter stuff out and am still in light stuff if I can.
DGS Ben is off back to Uni on Saturday bless him, I shall miss him.
DGD Holly is enjoying her new life as a primary school teacher ,she is teaching year two children. Eldest DGS Danny has just had a rise so he is a happy chap. The three youngest boys have settled back into school OK,although our Henry has a rotten cold, but refuses to have a day off from his paper-round.
Normality is returning to my life again and this morning after shopping I shall pop into Dobbies for the U3A coffee morning (I have a free voucher:):)).Then drop off some library books as well.Pretty normal Tuesday really, but I do enjoy routine.
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing
JackieO xxx
PS I'm going to knock up a Victoria sponge cake for DGS Jack before I go shopping as its his favourite and he's not had one for awhile0 -
Good morning everyone.
HH and Camelot my thoughts are with you. RR I hope you find a way to resolve things,
It is another grim day here. No washing pegged out yesterday and neither will there be today by the looks of things. Washing drying on the airers. We lit a fire last night in our woodburner and that helped dry things quite well although the towels are stiff as boards!
As the weather was so dismal I decided to empty out and sort out the airing cupboard. My bed was piled high with the contents. A couple of hours later my airing cupboard now looks super organised with single, double and king size bedding in separate stacks. I have also got rid a lot of my young grandson's clothes that are now too small. I have a huge bag of clothes for the charity shop. I have also weeded out the tatty towels which will be cut up to make cleaning cloths.
I'm probably going to have a steady day today as I seem to have picked up DGS's sicky bug. I will be making a chicken, leek and tarragon pie with new potatoes and veggies for tea.
Take care and have a good day everyone x0
