I always put about to table spoons of soda crystals to the detergent drawer (except ariel/persil and conditioner). Do my washing at 60 degrees. Thats of course for white/light coloured bed linen. They look OK after 3 years of using.
Soda crystals helps washing detergent work better (removing stains) properties also keeps your washing machine healthy (keeps the pipes clean). You can buy 1kg bag of it for less than a pound in most supermarkets.

Try to buy ariel/persil products. I find they work better.
  • I use 100% cotton bedding, wash at 60 with D*z and two heaped scoops of washing soda and use white vinegar in the final rinse rather than fabric conditioner. Line dried - comes up beautifully white especially on sunny days.
Never had much luck with Poly Cotton being as it always seems to go bobbly!

Buy hotel-quality sturdy white cotton bedding that you can boil (eBay or Google are your friend) wash with vanish and, if you like a pattern, buy a fleecy blanket (du elm so lovely ones for around £40) to put on top. They're easy to wash and easy to lint roll for dog hair.
