What is best to do next to get a credit rating?

Hi,
My husband and I used experian to view his credit score and was surprised it was 935 out of 999! He has never had a credit card or any kind of store credit, or even a mobile phone contract. He has a full time job and we are hoping to apply for a mortgage next year. After a few years or travelling he's only just gone on the electrol roll (end of last year) and we are currently living at my parents (since last year).
We decided that since his credit score was good we would apply for him to get a credit card and chose the virgin one to collect air miles. He rang them today as they couldn't give a straight answer when applying online yesterday and when speaking to them they have refused because he has never had credit before..... Even though his credit score is good.
I just wanted some advice on what is best to do next? His credit score has dropped by 30 because of this. Should we wait a bit before applying again? Obviously living at my parents he doesn't have any bills in his name or anything. We really need to build up his credit report in order to apply for a mortgage but really don't know what to do for the best?
If anyone could give us some advice I would be most grateful.
Thank you x

Ignore the score. Only you can see it. Your husband is high risk due to a thin file and Experian don't lend money.
Try a sub prime card, use it regularly and pay in full each month - he won't get a high end card on his first try.0 -
