Am looking to change to an economy 7 tariff as I have had Solar PV installed and this covers nearly all my daylight consumption, but can't any tariffs or how to do it.

Any advise would be welcome
Thanks

You would need to change your meter first to a 2-rate one and ask your current supplier to change your tariff to an E7 one.
  • The lower rate only kicks in around midnight-7am - during the evening you will be paying at the premium rate. E7 is intended for storage heaters - you heat them up cheap/at night, and they release their heat gradually during the following day/evening.

Yes but we only have a base load of around .4kwh during the evening, so using the appliance during the day (PV) or during eco 7 time will save us money.

We only use around 6-7 units a day as it is.

Actually since PV installed got that down now to around 4 units a day.

  • Next time you go on to a comparison site, answer Yes to the question about E7 meters, and you might get some answers. When the site asks you what percentage of your electricity is consumed on the lower rate run it twice - firstly with 0% at lower rate and secondly with 100% at lower rate. Consider carefully the potential complications of trying to explain to an energy supplier's call centre operative that you want to have an E7 meter even though you don't have night storage heaters.

    Where are you looking?

Almost all electricity suppliers provide E7 tariffs. (All the Big 6 definitely provide E7 tariffs)

When I look at a comparison site, I can see numerous options - you need to state you currently have E7 as comparison sites only compare like with like.

If you don't have an E7 meter at present, have you tried your existing supplier?

In the unlikely event that you are currently supllied by one of the newer, small suppliers that says they do not supply E7, then you will have to ditch & switch first.
