Recommendations for holiday with 1 and 3 year old abroad?

Hi,
we're starting to think about next years holiday as our first holiday abroard with the kids who will be 1 and 3 years old.

ideally with a soft play area, shallow pool, high chairs, cots etc
we would like a beach nearby.

we are not bothered about creches as we don't like to have the kids out of our sight.

Has anyone been anywhere with children of a simular age that they could recommend?

Thanks

  • We are looking to go somewhere in Europe, possibly Spain, Greece or Italy. but we are open to suggestions on everything. any recommendations on where to go with two very young children would be appreciated, thanks.
  • Hi, we go to Italy a fair bit and I have young children, last time I went was when my youngest was 11 months.

We tend to either rent a villa with a pool or a cottage on an agritourismo, I find these are easy with young children. If you go for a cottage with a shared pool and play area its really good for the older child to make friends and having a cottage is really handy as its like being at home, ie not stuck in one room like you would be in a hotel. You can tuck them up in their own rooms at night and sit in the sitting room or on the terrace without disturbing them.

Also Italy is very child friendly, they are welcome everywhere no tutting in a restaurant at 10 at night!
Any spelling mistakes are entirely on purpose to check you're paying attention :p
  • Italy could be a good option, as my wife speaks italian. and i hadn't thought of the praticalities of putting the children to bed and then being stuck in the room with them, so a villa or cottage would be a very good option. and somewhere that treats children as a joy rather than a burdon is very good too. Thanks, just need to find a nice area.
  • My children are 1 and 3 and will be my 1 year old's first holiday abroad (my 3 year old has been a few times now). I'm going with my parents (I'm a single mum) and we have decided mainland Spain (Fuengirola, Costa Del Sol). We've chose this because of the time of year which we will be going (end of Sept) it will still be warm so i'm told and wanted the shorter flight time. We are stopping in a 2 bedroomed hotel on a self-catering basis so we have the best of both worlds of using the hotel's facilities etc and they also have a kids' club and mini discos. However I would not be leaving my children at a creche or at the club my own personal choice as I too don't want them out of my sight!
    Hindsight is a wonderful thing

We went to Lykia World in Turkey last year with a 20 month old. the downside is the flight length. Otherwise it was exceptional facilities wise with regards to kids, high chairs, a 24 hour kitchen with milk available etc., childrens restaurants. Also with regards to kids clubs/creches, don't discount them. We didn't want to leave him alone either, but the kids club/creche allowed you to take them in and stay within sight if you wanted. We found it ideal as a way to get a break from the sun and allowed him to play with some 'normal' toys/books which we hadn't took with us. Best of both worlds really
  • Menorca is fantastic for families with small children. We have been there for the last few years (our son is now 8). It is very quiet and the beaches are really lovely (not that we go very often). Last year we went to the Sol Falco in Cala n' Bosch which was Flintstones themed. They had 5 pools including a childrens and babies pool - area was quite busy but they also had pools near the apartments which were much quieter. We went half board and the food/variety was superb. It is only 2 hours flight away and the transfers (whichever resort you travel to will be no longer than 1 hour!). Enjoy your holiday - at least you are going outside the school holidays which will be a bonus!! :j :T

Thanks for this, just had a look at the place and it looks like a very good option, as it looks like it caters for kids very well. take your point about the creche, as our son would love to play in it if we were there to supervise.
