O/S Daily Monday 14th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, dull, overcast, raining steadily and very wet underfoot.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires, and gravy, meat was delicious and I’ve managed to keep some, so have LO’s of Yorkshires, mash, roast pork, roasties, cauli/broc cheese in the fridge, will be using these up over the next few days and will get a meal from these. Dinner tonight is going to be a casserole, I’ll put it all in the slow cooker shortly, as DH is going to be a bit late tonight so we thought just having a meal that I can serve up once he’s home would be easiest. The casserole is going to be beef and vegetables.

Back to work today for me, it’s likely to be a manic Monday as every Monday is turning into one of them and 1 of my colleagues who is affected by the restructure left on Friday as she has got another job, so we’re a person short that won’t be replaced.

Keep safe and well x

Well, what a weekend. DD has now moved in, spent Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday lugging stuff up 2 flights of stairs and I am exhausted! Still, she is happy to be in and starting her new life. I stayed with her on Saturday night and it is very comfortable. I am now a dab hand at assembling ikea furniture but will be happy not to do any for quite some time!

I'm trying to catch up with everything in this house, nothing has been done over the weekend apart from grabbing a quick bite to eat, I'll be glad to get back to some meals that contain vegetables!

WM on with some blankets we used as dust sheets, hopefully they will dry outside today. Changed my bed last night so that can go on in a minute.

I'll catch up with all your news later, hope all is well. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Dull and grey in Glasgow. My trip down was lovely until the end bit, just as I got to Costco the heavens opened. Got the needed loo rolls, dishwasher tabs and batteries.

The liquid my mum has to take for her colonoscopy worked in the middle of the night - poor soul. There's a load in the washing machine and her duvet will go to the dry cleaners later today. She's so worried now about getting to the hospital without accident. We'll cope!

After the hospital I'll take mum shopping - she's had a very odd and restricted diet for the last three days - collect an order from Boots and then I'll head home.

I've got egg mayo for breakfast and then who knows for later.

Camelot - congrats to your DD on her own place. You've worked so hard to help her fly the nest.

    Happy Monday everyone.

    Morning all,

Raining here and kind of matches my mood, we had a bit of a day with FIL yesterday, since we lost little dog he has been saying every single week that if we ever get another dog he will be happy to have it during the day while we are at work, honestly he says it once a week at least, well OH took noodles to meet him yesterday and he was very nasty, told OH that he was irresponsible for getting a dog when we work full time etc he kept on and on OH had to walk out in the end he was fuming.

So its put the cat amongst the pigeons with noodles so we have managed to get this week covered with her and possibly next week but then she may have to go back, its such a shame as she is really coming out of herself and I am sure given time we could help her with her separation anxiety, I just hope that a really suitable home comes along ASAP for her.

Back to work today mum is dog sitting for us, I shall do summer in winter chicken for dinner and I need to put a wash on and do an online shop.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's forecast to be a wet and windy day so I am glad to be indoors all day. DD12 has the orthodontist to check up on her brace but DD14 is going to take her for me as I couldn't manage it today. It's only a 5 minute appointment, unfortunately it's in the next town so they will miss their first lesson at school. As DD14's first lesson is Maths, she is very happy :).

Hubby has gone off to work taking his umbrella but it gets so windy up here I expect him to fly to work rather like a very tall and balding Mary Poppins :rotfl::rotfl:. We had a very pleasant weekend and for once it didn't feel like it flew by. I have a quiet week planned though as I am still adjusting to my new level of meds.

Today the girls want pizza for tea and hubby is having chicken curry and rice. I don't know yet what I will be having, probably some hm soup. I will be having a cooked lunch though, I fancy making a frittata with some leeks in as I seem to have an abundance of them in the fridge.

I think I will be having some deliveries today hopefully so I will go and get dressed now as not to frighten the postman. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Oh dear Redruby, that is a shame.

We had another busy weekend, staying with DD and fiance on Friday night to help them pack up their flat and move to ours because they had rented it out expecting to be moving into their new house. Unfortunately the renters seem to have pulled out - I say seem to because they have dropped out of communication. DD texted them yesterday to say that they would put the flat back on the market if they didn't hear from them and they didn't so it is back out there. Hopefully it won't take long to rent because it's a lovely flat in a popular area of London.

Yesterday DH and I went foraging for sloes and blackberries and also got some crabapples. There's a bowl of juice strained waiting to make apple and blackberry jelly (using apples from DS' bramley tree) and today I need to buy gin to make sloe gin and I'll make some rosemary and crabapple jelly. I'm earning my OS credentials for once!

Apart from that it's going to be more wedding prep (less than 2 weeks away) and house cleaning.

    Have a good day.
  • Morning all. Miserable start here but forecast to stay dry, so hopefully some washing may get hung out.

GERS I hope your mum goes on ok today. REDRUBY if I lived nearer I'd do the daily minding of Noodles for you. CAMELOT you've done the very best you could getting your DD started in her new independent life. Well done.

DS still with us after his w/e at the caravan. He said he has got his head sorted and had enjoyed a long walk. But he looks so miserable and I just feel he will be back with the gf soon. I know he's 40 but he's still my baby and I worry about him in that relationship. Meanwhile we are here to support him whatever he decides.

I think Mr TA is feeling marginally better for the injections restarting and he is persevering with the energy drinks between meals but he finds them so filling he still doesn't want a big meal. ELONA thanks for the tip about the milky ENERGY drink. He doesn't find them very palatable (prefers the Juicy variety) so I did what you suggested and made up a milkshake with one, using full fat Cornish dairy ice cream! There must have been about 500 cals in that glass but he said it was lovely. I'm wondering about making a jelly up with a Juicy one did you ever try that? That might be nice with double cream poured over to add even more calories. I'll just be glad when he has the scan to see if stents would help him eat better as they suspect.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))) if needed and take care xx

  • Good Morning all, been very busy the last few days getting life and things back to 'normal' after the school holidays.Mikey has settled in well at senior school although he does get quite tired now as his walk to school is a lot longer and senior school is a lot different to primary school.Ben is off back to Uni this Saturday and had a fantastic time with his G/F in Hungary. He absolutely loved it and was bubbling over with all he had seen.Said Budapest was a gorgeous city and how nice it was to see somewhere without graffiti everywhere, very clean and the buildings were beautiful.I had a look through his photo folder last night on his lap-top and he must have taken umpteen photos.
Well weather is dry at the moment but some ominous looking clouds on the horizon so I'm glad I managed to get all my washing and ironing up to date. Dentist this morning for Ben and I for a check up
Hope everyone has a good Monday whatever they are doing.
    Cheers JackieO xxx

    Morning all,

Redruby such a shame your doggy daycare fell through...There was no need for FIL's unpleasantness though.

So glad it's Monday...Hardly seen Youngest all weekend but that's ok. Both men are back at work and I can rest now. It's been a horrible weekend. The atmosphere you could cut with a knife.

Just usual stuff in the house to do today. Nothing major.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

  • Good Morning everyone, it's wet enough here this morning to think of asking if anyone has a spare Ark! New car goes in to the dealership this morning for the tow bar to be fitted, hope they give He Who Knows a courtesy car or he'll get soaked to the skin just walking to the bus stop for the bus home. Feeling abysmal myself, DD1 and I both seem to have picked up a 'gluey head/persistent tickly chest' virus last week and yesterday I itched all over inside and out, even the insides of my eyes itched, so peculiar today I ache everywhere and my head is so congested it feels 'heavy' not nice at all. Hope I feel better for tomorrow as I'm off to Zebra wrangle for a few days.

REDRUBY so very sad to hear that FIL is being so unhelpful, especially as the message that he'd have the new pup was what he was sending before. I hope you can find a solution and that you'll be able to find some way of covering the daytime period while you are both out. We have 'Doggy Daycare' here where I believe you can have them cared for like toddlers at nursery school but I think it's a very expensive thing to do. If it turns out that you can't keep her then these few days with you will have been so good for her they will have given her a new impression of humans being good and kind and gentle with her and that might just be the thing that gets her the new home she so badly needs. If you aren't in the position to actually have a pup now think perhaps that when you get to retirement age you could maybe get another Border? and then have all day every day to fully enjoy a new little friend? Not much comfort for how devastated you're feeling now love but a bright spot on the future horizon perhaps? Hugs, Lyn xxx.
  • Morning (((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Very wet, and cold here this morning, about to do the Monday clean. OH will push to Dyson round as he cannot get out into the garden. No idea what I am going to do then, maybe some sewing.

Pacemaker clinic to morrow, will see what they have to say this time!! fingers crossed the pressure has not gone up any higher and I can have a longer interval between appointments. Its expensive we have to pay for at least 2 hours parking, and its a 60 mile round trip.
