Don't use fabric softener, it ruins the fibres!

I wash mine at either 40 or 60 depending how dirty they are, are air dry, always come out fine.

I just stick mine in the sink, sprinkle on a bit of bio washing powder and pour on some boiling water - swish it around a bit with an old spoon and rinse

With the washing soda crystals Dusty how much do you use, and where do you get them etc?

I get them in Tesco/waitrose or ASDA about 60p to 70p a packet. They come in a bag about the size of a bag of sugar. You find them in the cleaning aisle past the washing power. I put about half a tea cup in and the same of washing powder - do this on any washes with stained clothes. You can also use the crystals down the plug hole with hot water or white vinegar to keep it running clean and clear. God I sound like Agi! or even worse Anthea

Fabric conditioner coats the fibres and completely ruins the absorbancy properties of a microfibre cloth. White vinegar is a very good alternative if you want your microfibre cloths to be nice and soft, but not too much, they'll end up smelling like a bag of chips!

Also, if you put them in a tumble dryer, then ALWAYS do so on a 'low heat' setting. A tumble dryer on 'high heat' is capable of melting the fibres and you'll get little hard lumps in the cloth which can scratch delicate surfaces.

I've got quite a bit of experience with microfibre cloths, so any questions just shout! I've got well over 100 of them!

    Microfibre rocks!

I have microfibre towels (got some of the dear ones from Lakeland and they are fantastic) for both tea towels and bathtowels. All microfibre for me goes into the same wash, no fabric conditioner, 40 degrees.

I have had really good stain removal results from soaking in Vanish. If it is a cleaning cloth, however, does a stain matter. It's like a medal - shows it's been in action :)
    Always another chapter

  • Apologies as this is slightly off thread but wanted to share it with you: all you ladies who wear make-up may well know about this already but I discovered it a couple of weeks ago and am very excited about it (well, I don't get out much, you see!). :o It's the ebody eye/face pad which is a microfibre glove for removing make-up and it's brilliant. Really does the job just using just water and gives a mild exfoliation at the same time - not sure I'd want to use it for eye make-up though, might be a bit rough. Cost £6.99 but as I have really sensitive skin which means using expensive hypoallergic cleansers I reckon it's going to be a real money saver and environmentally friendly to boot!

Hi all, I've recently been doing much more os baking and its been really sucessful, i've made pizza's and cakes and am loving twinks hobnob biscuits but i've realised that when i tidy up afterwards and wipe down my surfaces, i keep ruining my microfiber cloths, i've rinsed them out well and put in the washer, but i've just got them out and they still seem to be covered in bobbly bits of glue like stuff, whichi think must be flour etc.
What can i do? i dont really want to go back to disposable type j cloths.

You're right, what you descibe is a "glue" made from flour and water. I stick mine in the machine and it washes off

We have an older thread on washing microfibre cloths, so I'll add this one to it.

Hi thanks, i think i will just put them back throught the wash a couple of times to get rid of all the bobbles. these ones were quite expensive, but i think i might stick to the cheaper ones for the kitchen so i can replace them more often perhaps.
will try some of the other washing methods too, as i dont normally use bio (got toddler with v sensative skin) but i might buy some just for the cloths etc.
