Hi guys

My '52 plate Picasso's blower fan motor needs replaced. My local garage has quoted me £140 to replace it, £80 for part plus 1.5 hr labour. Does this seem reasonable?

Comments

  • It maybe if you cannot do it yourself. Have you had a 2nd and 3rd quote?

    Fix it yourself for £80?

Na, I couldnt fix it myself unfortunately.
  • The price of the motor is about right for a decent new one.

Changing these on most cars is quite a big job, they're susceptible to damp from the windscreen scuttle drainage channel, which gets blocked with leaves/etc and also similarly from not changing the cabin pollen filter, it causes the motor shaft to rust and then stick, which then usually blows the resistor pack and/or the fuse.

Normally you can merely change the resistor pack, bunk a load of lubricating oil (NOT WD40) in to the air intake behind the pollen filter and it'll gradually start working again.

Did this to mine in 2010, when it sounded like someone was murdering a cat behind the dashboard and 5 years later you'd never know there had been a problem.

Never done this job on a Xsara but seems fair enough if you are unable to do it yourself.
