Guilt tripping Big Issue seller - Small vent!

They stand outside one of the big shop entrances, which is the second most convenient entrance into the mall, and even in the snow, you can see people wincing at the loud bell noise and walking the extra 50 yards to the main mall entrance. The shop loses that foot traffic because of the bell ringer.
I guess the shop perhaps cannot control who stands outside.
Wow, it must be really loud! It's a shame they don't change it to something quieter, like a couple of carol singers or something
Ah maybe not, I'd just assumed they'd need permission to operate within the grounds/entrance or staff would tell them to move on!0 -
And the OP isn't pressurising passers-by to buy a copy of The Big Issue - which is the subect of the vent.
I'm sure the OP realises that she is lucky compared to any Big Issue seller.
I do too.
But - I don't want to be guilt-tripped into buying.
Ask me if I want a copy, then accept it if my reply is 'no thank you'.
That's not what this Big Issue seller did.
I appreciate your post and you are 100% right.
The woman stated that she was cold and wanted to go home - you can either interpret that as begging or you can take it at face value! It could go either way in fairness!
OP is very lucky, just like all of us. We don't have to haul big issues on a cold street. BUT I'm just a bit concerned that OP would rather rant on here than buy a "cold" woman a hot coffee - that's what being human is all about, helping those less fortunate. Sod the big issue, just respond to what people are saying!0 -
My local Morrisons is awful for sticking charity collectors by the door in the way in and out. At least when you do the shopping online you don't have to deal with it.0

Our local very annoying Big Issue seller has a bigger house than mine and a family of four children. I met him in a restaurant in a different town with his four kids and his wife. No single course dinner for this family but the three courses while i sat there with my cheapo special. Never got a penny off me since.0

 I hate to sound harsh here, but September isn't that cold! If the woman's so "cold" now I dread to think how she'll cope in winter... :rotfl:It's nice to be nice! :beer:0 -

In any case, some people feel the cold more than others due to health problems.
Harsh and ignorant post.
Oh dear! It was meant to be a light hearted, jokey post, didn't mean to cause any offence!
However, probably digging myself even further into a hole here, but why would they work outside if that was the case? It's nice to be nice! :beer:0
