Microsoft Outlook - Strange situation?

Got an issue with Outlook. It started when Avast antivirus decided that it wanted to do a 'Boot Scan' (I think it said), anyway it took quite a while to complete but when it finished I noticed this problem with Outlook.

The 'Sent item' folder in the archive folders section had disappeared - completely gone along with all it's contents of course.

I turned Outlook off and back on again and it asked if I wanted to carry out an autoarchive which I agreed to, and when it had finished the Sent Items folder had reappeared but it only contains sent emails dating from 29/6/15 to 9/7/15 with the more recent sent items being in the main sent items folder.

Is there any way to retrieve the missing sent items?. I have checked on webmail and they do not appear on the server.

I do have access to a cloned hard drive from a month or so ago but if I import the pst file from this I assume that it will ovewrite the existing contents and will therefore lose the more recent emails.

Is there anyway to selectively import just the contents of the cloned sent email folder without losing anything more recent?

Thanks

you can open as many pst's simultaneously as you want, copy it across and open it, don't import or play around with the backup.

it's unlikely to be anything to do with avast, pst's can get corrupt if they get too big, >2GB what size is it. if it's corrupt there are repair tools, (scanpst) available that might recover something, or maybe it's just been archived as your post suggests - search the disk for pst's
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand
