Can my partner sign my rent agreement on our behalf?

My partner and I are hoping to rent a property. She will be attending a couple of house viewings next week but I can't go.

If she decides to rent a property, will she be able to sign an agreement on behalf of both of us? Or do I have to be there as well?

Would really appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.

Only if you've given her power of attorney. Even then I suspect some agents will want you to sign personally.

Agent might accept email promise from you: If not get it signed at a solicitor local & convenient to you (it will cost you) if acceptable to agent/landlord.

Of course in E-or-W any tenancy of less than 3 years does not need to be written: But any tenant, landlord or agent agreeing to same needs head examining.. (IMHO)

You need to be there to sign the tenancy agreement but you do not need to be there for the viewings.

She won't sign there and then anyway. She can put down a holding deposit which doesn't require a signature then the agent will ask a tenant referencing company to carry out checks on both of you then when you both go and collect the keys you will both pay the money over, sign the tenancy agreement and move in which is usually a week or two later once all the checks have come back positive.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
