Step 8 - Credit card company evaluates case (Up to 75 days)

I have a chargeback opened in August dated back from March.

I can't provide POP but uploaded my OBA sent items for that day.
I also uploaded the buyers positive feedback for item received.
I also uploaded an email from the buyer saying it was all a mistake and she was trying to sort it out with the bank.

However Paypal has closed the case, and charged me a fee.

The disputed amount has now been debited from your PayPal account for the following reason(s):

We did not receive proof of postage.

If the financial institution decides the case in your favour, we'll notify you when the payment is returned to your PayPal account.

Is there anything I can do?

Have you called Paypal? They're usually slightly better over the phone. I'd say the key was the feedback saying item was received.

I just spoke to Paypal, they said that they have sent the evidence to the cc company and we are no waiting for them to make a decision but based on my 'evidence' I would probably get the money back.

The agent also said she would reverse the £14 fee I have been charged as soon as possible. £14 really?

Just to add that the £14 has now been reversed...

Paypal are surprisingly kind, it costs them a lot more than the £14 fee they charge.

If you've been in communication with the buyer I'd tell them Paypal has now reversed the payment and if they don't pay the Paypal invoice you've sent within 7 days you'll issue small claims proceedings against them.

  • I can't help thinking these "fees" for chargebacks (not to be confused with section 75) will be the next banking scandal.

    Profiteering innit.

I doubt there's enough of them to become a scandal. They tend to affect businesses too so not enough people to care. See also courier customs handling fees;)

As more and more people move to using google wallet/paypal/applepay the risks of getting paid with pretend money may force the issue?

Perhaps. It still isn't that prevalent though. I've been taking online payments for 15 years and have only had one chargeback that I was charged for. As far as I can recall I got it back when I complained. As far as I'm concerned chargebacks aren't a big deal, I don't get them.
