JIS screwdrivers - Tamiya

I need a JIS screwdriver for building a Tamiya RC car - the model shop and, unbelievably Tamiya UK does not have there for sale !!
(Tamiya support deny that they are even necessary)

They are more "pointy" than generic crosshead drivers - necessary to fit some of the screws in the car - I have tried several "phillips" drivers and ended up damaging the heads !!

Does anyone know where these can be bought in the UK ?

  • Why don't you use a search engine?

Loads on Amazon UK for example!
  • Probably get from a mobile phone repair/upgrade shop.

the most visible distributed brand in the UK and US is VesselTools. The UK ebay listing is here and the difference 'twixt' the Japanese Industrial standard and the lazy and crude Phillips is below

I made hand made furniture for 60 years and swapped from the useless Phillips to square screws distributed by someone 4 miles from me 35 years ago - never looked back. NOTE the driver tips are properly hardened.

Thanks - these are tiny little screws that hold "bits" of a radio control car suspension together - don't think that there are "dimples" on them...
But they ARE jis screws !!

Had you referred to Robertson heads I would have known what you meant, square screws, not so.

Take a look at the cheap black and yellow "Trades pro" mini screwdriver set in ASDA, assuming they still sell them.

That's fine with me, call them what you will my friend. Of course they are neither Roberstson or square head at all, because the head is round isn't it. No, injecting a little more pedantry I'd say its the socket in the head or the drive that's square, the screw continues eternally round.
