This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning All
It's silly o'clock here, I've been to bed, got up again & will try to get some more sleep in a while.
DGD is asleep in the spare room & hubby is asleep in our bed.
Hubby has to be at work at 8:30 & DD at 8:45, so I'll drop them both at work & then get some bread from the bakers.
DGD wants to make choc chip cookies & do some sewing and needs to be home with her dad before lunchtime.
I did my launch party earlier this week & I have orders of about £300, I'm just waiting until Tuesday for a couple more orders to come in & then I can place an order for the whole lot.
I need to start another pink blanket for a colleague expecting a baby in November & I need to take up2 pairs of work trousers for hubby.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone
HH - thanks for starting us off, hope you managed to get some more sleep.
DH and myself up enjoying first cuppas of the day. Boys still in their pits.
Now light, wet underfoot, and raining steadily, the cloud is very dark and dreich too, looks like it's in for the day.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, got the jobs done in town, food shopping, then once I was home, I managed to strip both boys beds, wash, and line dried it too. There's a load in the WM that I'll need to dry - as it's DH and DS1's work clothes, may just put them in the TD for an hour.
Dinner last night was a cheeky takeaway.
Not sure what we'll be eating later, but have different bits in, so will be able to throw something together I'm sure.
We have a few jobs to do, it's likely that the weekend will be reasonably chilled and relaxed. We'll be visiting the outlaws and my parents at some point.
Have a good weekend x
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
I hope you did get back off to sleep again Hester.
After the lovely bright day yesterday the wind is already blowing a gale here. The Atlantic storm has arrived, I shall be doing a little light housework today and not going out.
Yesterday I got an unexpected phone call offering me some more teaching / mentoring hours for a cohort of remotely based learners. I love a challenge so spent the rest of the afternoon sorting out forms and spreadsheets etc. Since I 'relaxed' from work in April a small part of me has missed teaching - this and the wee two hours a week job is perfect.
I don't really want to start my day yet, so I'm going to read my book for a wee while.
Breakfast is porridge and there's some quiche for later. My peashoots are growing well but not yet ready for eating. I've planted some more to keep a regular supply going and have lots ofvlittlecplastic trays ready for sowing.
I hope that the storm isn't over everyone. Happy Saturday.0 -
Morning all, we have a wet start here but forecast to improve.
My posting has been a bit sporadic this week since our extended hospital visit and the verbal abuse from DS's GF. As well as having DS back home, we also had the 3 DGDs here for Wed and Thurs teas, sleepovers and school runs next day. So a busy and stressful week, which has left me rather washed out.
DS is still with us, though the GF has since calmed down and we are getting inundated with apologies via text. The trouble is that these outbursts occur far too frequently and DS just can't cope with her any more. The sad part is that between these irrational temper/wrecking episodes she is lovely. We know she has serious issues from her childhood which she needs help coming to terms with, but she won't make that first step and ask for the help she needs. Until she does she will never change sadly.
DS is working this morning but afterwards he is going over to the caravan for a bit of breathing space and thinking time. Then he plans a long walk tomorrow before he has to be back for work Monday.
Not a lot planned for myself today though a much needed dust and vac round must take priority. Then maybe take the bus into town for a wander round. The pile of ironing can wait!
Have a good day all (((((((HUGS))))))) if needed and take care xx (Hope you got a bit more sleep HH. I wish I too could get into better sleeping habits)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all, thank you Hester for starting us off.
It has been raining most of the night and still is now. Thankfully I stripped our bed yesterday, washed, dried and ironed and back on the bed by 4. It was a gorgeous day and the linen smelt so good after the sun had dried it.
This morning we have DGD2 to take to her drama and dance club, not sure yet whether we have to collect her or whether she is going into town with friends. Later taking DGD1 to the hairdressers, and if it is still raining collect her as well.
No housework to speak of to do, just the usual. DGD1 is out this evening having a meal with her friend and then going to see the film Legend. We might just have something on toast as it is just the two of us.
We both worked really hard yesterday, Himself trying to trim the branches of next door's tree which overhang a big part of the bottom of our garden and me in the kitchen and I must say I have some really tidy cupboards now.
TA I am sorry you are having such troubles with DSs GF, you really could do without that at the moment. I hope DH is eating a little more now.
Have a good weekend all

Morning :hello:
Judi That's really interesting, thanks. I hope I didn't come across as meaning that I think every puppy should go to endless puppy parties and sent straight into the middle of a busy dog park to socialiseI was lucky enough to come across someone who knew where Scampi came from. Apparently he was hardly ever walked and there was no garden, so he didn't even get used to strange noises outside. Very young children who were allowed to treat him as a teddy bear. Now I don't know this for a fact, but if it's true then it explains a lot. Not sure where the fear of wheels came from though. I was giving him treats for good behaviour, I was told to carry on with this at home but not when we're out. He gets the treat as soon as he sees a stranger, whether he's frightened or not but before he barks or pulls. Seemed backwards to me to start with, but he's beginning to associate strangers with good things, rather than assuming everyone is going to attack him.
MrsLurcherwalker Cookie sounds like a dream, wanna swap? :rotfl:
LameWolf Thanks for the lead info, I'll look it up today and see what I can find. Have a great trip! x
Hester Congrats! I'm glad the party went well
TravellingAbuela I feel like locking up your house, taking your phones off you and sending you off somewhere nice for a week. If someone needs to contact you, they'll have to go through me
I was making good progress in the garden but it's come to a standstill today – it's raining. I tend to lose momentum when something interferes with my plans so I'll have to talk myself back into it when the weather's nice again
I'm going to go through the drawers under the bed and pull out my winter clothes, I'll wash them all today and somehow fit them into the wardrobe. T-shirts and thin shirts are still being worn so I'm not going to put them away yet, it's going to get crowded in there, lol. I will take out the ones that won't survive another year and get rid of them though, maybe write a list of replacements and see if there's a sale on somewhere. I'll empty the drawers in the kitchen too, they've got into a mess so I'll clean and sort them. Not sure what else to do to keep busy today, I'm sure I'll find something though.

Good Morning everyone, the rain has stopped here now and He Who Knows is putting his boots on to 'Oh the rain's stopped, I think I'll take her after all' Cookie!!! It's the making of us this opportunity, I think we'll HAVE to get another hound, I don't think we function properly without one. We had a super walk (Cookie and I) yesterday afternoon with Charlie retriever, his mum and her little grandson in his buggy and Cookie just took it all in her stride, she's a good girl! I'm torn between being sad that I won't be able to walk her most of next week and really happy to be going to wrangle that Zebra, still the following week we should be able to get a routine going and I'll be able to go every day, weather permitting of course. TRU she IS a poppet and you'll get there with Scampi, Cookie is a CockaPoo and is 3 now (I think) so not only is she older but less volatile, I know terriers, they're made of very different stuff, you'll get there love!
We got lots done yesterday both in the house and in the garden, gave the blackberry bushes a good haircut and tied them in on their new wires and posts, the raspberries on the allotment are slowing production and the outdoor tomatoes are ripening fast. I think the runner beans are coming to an end too, it's been a very good summer but I'm quite glad we're going into autumn now, I like the seasonal changes and outside smells lovely at this time of year. Think of us this afternoon when Cookie and I go for another lovely walk, life now has a focus and we both have lost a little of the emptiness that was left where Docky lived, acceptance perhaps? Don't know but I'm grateful!!!
Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one. Getting brekkie in bed this morning, then have to be up and at em. Dd1 will be here with her husband to shift some furniture round for us.
It has rained overnight which has saved us watering. I need to sort out the bulbs and get them planted. Also need to hoe off the weeds from the herbaceous bed and the front. The grass will need cutting again soon. We also need to get the chap in to put the turf down for the new bit of lawn.0 -

Morning all,
Nice bright day here atm but its meant to rain later I have a towel load in the wm which I will hang out if I can for a while.
Tonight we are going to treat ourselves to an Indian, I am really looking forward to it our local ish one is fab and they deliver :T
I need to pop to the shop for a few bits just some jam, soy sauce and balsamic vinegar, luckily there is a local (huge) shop that does things like this and olice oil, pickles really good quality ones cheap, Bon Maman jam is £1 in there, so every now and then I stock up.
MRS LW its so nice to hear of your jaunts with cookie, it does make me wonder if I am ready for another one, I do so miss having one, but just in the last week my sister lost two of her dogs and watching her heartbreak really bring it all back to me, perhaps I need to borrow one like you and see how I get on, Im so glad its working for you though xx
Right better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
Well we had some rain overnight, but it is bright, sunny and quite breezy so I have 2 loads on the washing line, still haven't done the ironing, so there will be even more tonight.
DS and DH are both out at work, DD still in bed:eek:
I am doing the housework and have a loaf of bread proving at the moment.
DH picked a load of damsons yesterday, which are all lovely and ripe, so I will make some jam and stew some for the freezer shortly, and then I also hope to get out in the garden and do a bit of tidying up.
Not sure what to do for dinner, but will probably do a veggie stew or curry.
Hugs to everyone, have a good Saturday all x.SPC 11 #4450
