Just received surprise cheque but claim was settled 2 yrs ago!

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this but the way Barclays handle their claims has become even more worrying.
I received full settlement of two PPI claims with Barclays in 2013 after a long two year fight involving the Financial Ombudsman who upheld my claims as I was self-employed. One was a Barclaycard account, the other a Masterloan.
Out of the blue a cheque has arrived in settlement of a Masterloan with a different reference number. The accompanying letter states a decision not to uphold my claim has been overturned on "an internal review". On checking my files of papers & speaking to the PPI call centre, it would appear that the claims department have duplicated my payment without checking their files properly. I am now awaiting news of what they want me to do with this cheque.
Wonder how many other claims have been re-assessed and sent out without any checks done to see if a payout had been made in intervening period? If I cash it I would be committing theft as I know it is an error but I'm wondering if I should bring the matter to the attention of the Ombudsman.
It was a lovely surprise.....for a few seconds, then the penny dropped!
