age discrimmination at interview?

Yep.
Ageism is a tricky concept though! I would argue that OP's age has influenced the outcome of this, but was not the sole PRIMARY reason for rejection.
OP's lack of recent methodology/literature seems to have been the downfall. One must wonder whether, at 62, they come across as inflexible and unwilling to change. Add in other variables which weren't mentioned (because the OP has omitted other details about the interview, and the answer may lie there) and I think it just boils down to applicant error!
No evidence of ageism from what I can see, and even so it doesn't explain why OP has been given interviews! They are clearly experienced enough to be sitting in that seat, but maybe they are just a bit out of the present day loop...
Out of the present day loop? (Erm not for my profession Im not) Unwilling and inflexible? (Speak to my boss)Unwilling to change? (spent 4 years working abroad 5 years ago temped for many years in various different professions) Omitted details about the interview and the answer may lie there? (How much info do you need?). The OP is not yet an OAP and has a nickname so use it. I only asked if the forum could see if there was any age discrimination. I didn't come on here to be labelled and insulted by age discrimminationary posts! Yes I have self examined and yes as far as I am concerned the interview was ageist.

Perhaps they shouldn't have asked for your passport at that stage but the fact they did doesn't automatically mean they turned you down because of your age.
I think you should focus on the feedback they gave you, rather than putting all your energy into fighting something tenuous.
Thank you thank you the first sensible positive post in this thread. I have other interviews pending. The one I went to before the one I moaned about I didn't see a problem with rejection. Th is recent one I went with their actions and gut feeling in this interview and thats what sparked off my original enquiry..and it was only an enquiry there was no need for the downright insults I've received from this forum...:money:

Yet you've still not provided any proof for this - and no, "self examination" is not proof.
Hopefully you are going to let this drop?0 -
Wait until you have been told in an interview......'well you are no spring chicken are you'?
Unusually for me, I said nothing until I informed the very embarrassed HR person who accompanied me out of the premises after the interview, not to consider me for the position.
There were three other candidates who did exactly the same!
This guy (A Director) was a complete clown - and he was probably the same age as me!
Don't beat yourself up over this OP, if a company does not wish to employ you because of your age, they can find other excuses not to recruit you.0 -
I have attended interview where I failed to get the job where the interview panel had a list of 'key words' which they expected to be incorporated into the answers and the feedback I got was that I hadn't used those key words in my answers, even though I had answered the question, the succesful candidate HAD used the keywords.
I would assume they were looking for evidence that I was up-to-date with recent developments/current thinking. This is what I think might have been the case with you, OP.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Ironpetal, I'm not sure if you've misunderstood daytona0 here, but "OP" is a pretty standard forum abbreviation for "original poster" and has nothing to do with age ....0 -
As has already been said, you've reported nothing that suggests discrimination to an impartial observer.
It sounds to me as though you're in denial about your shortcomings in the interview. It doesn't matter what you think of your answers! You need to worry about what interviewers think. You need to get over it and act on the valuable feedback you've received. Knowing a job inside out isn't the same as being equipped to interview well for the job. You didn't say the right words? Don't moan about it - find out what the right words are and use them.0 -

Seems like the original poster thought there was age discrim when there was none here, and not for the first time.0 -
I see my post was deleted, someone didn't like criticism and thereby is the crux of the issue in the OP.0
