Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone could help?

I have been using Noddle for a while now and my credit score has not changed for a number of years - showing as 1/5 even though my payments have been up to date and I have not borrowed anything other than on my credit card for a long time.

I have just signed up to Clearscore and it's showing my rating as 495/700 which in my opinion seems quite good. But maybe it isn't?

Please could someone advise how to read each score and if you think they do differ dramatically, and if so, why this might be?

Thanks

    Because they're made up.

No-one currently knows how "stable" or "realistic" the "score" offered by Clearscore is because the service is brand new, but Noddle's "score" seems to basically just be a random figure plucked out of thin air (over the couple of years i've been using Noddle for example my "score" with them has changed month-by-month between 2/5 and 5/5 with no significant actual change to my financial situation.

The important thing is to just make sure that with each provider the information shown is actually right. If everything that relates to your life and credit is shown and is correct, you're on the right track.

in theory noddle should be more accurate in terms of what data they use. As they are part of CallCredit, so will have direct access to that data. Whereas Clearscore is a third party, so will most likely have limited access to the data from the CRA's.

but then, like any creditor, the score they generate is based on their own lending criteria so each one will score the same data differently. As neither Noddle or Clearscore actually lend, the score is meaningless

Noddle uses CallCredit data to present a monthly snapshot to customers.
Clearscore uses Equifax data to present a monthly snapshot to customers.
Neither is more accurate than the other, they simply sit on top of different agency data sets.
  • I have Experian 999, Noddle 5/5 or 643/700, Equifax is 420/600 and Clearscore is 470/700.

Having Noddle 1/5 versus Clearscore 495/700 definitely sounds odd. Do you have the same address history on both?

I'm Soaring High on one and half way between Poor and Fair on the other.

    I have no idea.

Except that Noddle is actually run by CallCredit, and Clearscore is a 3rd party that uses data from Equifax.

So Equifax may not give them a full set of a data

I have only checked my rating with Noddle which is a 5 , by the looks of what you say this info appears to be fairly accurate ,

any idea how would you improve on a 648 ? or do I need to pay off the mortgage ?

    cheers

The score is meaningless - only you see it. It means nothing, so don't stress about it.
