Switching Nationwide Flexdirect

I'm trying to switch from Nationwide My new bank has been unable to switch the Nationwide account because the switching system says that the sort code is for savings accounts not current. The new bank are opening the new account but I'll have to sort the Nationwide account myself.

Has anyone else had a problem like this with Nationwide.

    What's the sort code?
    Who are you transferring to?

If you type the sort code into the sort code checker, it says it is a "Current Account 2014".

Nationwide also list it as a current account sort code on their website. Indeed, it bears no resemblance to their savings account sort codes...

I can't help with details of a switch I've done because the 3 FlexDirect accounts I switched away were all sort code 07-02-46. I'm on my second round of FlexDirect accounts now and the new sort codes are as the OP's (which fits with your link above), but as yet I've not switched them away so don't know if it's just Cumberland or all providers who are having problems.
  • Not too much of an issue once the new account is opened I'll just move everything over. There aren't too many direct debits!

It is my understanding that the bank being switched to is responsible for sorting out any issues with the Switching Service. If it is unwilling to do so I'd think twice about my choice of destination bank.

By not using the switching service you lose the benefit of having any future credits / debits to the old account being forwarded to the new one.

Looking up the sort codes that Nationwide list on the sort code checker, they come up as FlexAccount (original), FlexAccount 2007, Current Accounts 2014 and something else. Presumably Nationwide buy a new sort code range when they run out of the previous one, so new accounts will be a later sort code on the list (unless they recycle like the phone networks do after the payment redirection period expires.) As Nationwide have had a huge increase in applications for current accounts in recent years, it would explain why there were 7 years in between the second and third range but a year and a bit at most between the third and fourth.
