Child benefit payments stopped - No change in circumstances

Morning All!
I noticed this week that my August child benefit payment doi not go into my bank account.

My children are 3 and 13 so neither of them have left education which would result in my payments to stop.

I phoned the Child Benefit office this morning and the lady informed me that my claim was "selected" for a routine security check - and that they will be in contact with me when its over?

Has anyone heard of this before?
Surely if payment will be ceased until its completed I should have been informed about it..

Any assistance in this topic would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

I've found this from a previous post of yours

''I live in Northern Ireland but work in the Republic... ''

This is a bit of a guess but I did read that your child benefits has to be paid from the country you work in.

As I say I don't know if they know you work in the Republic (if you still do!)

I'll find the link for you.

Here's the link I was reading

    http://borderpeople.info/a-z/child-benefit-in-northern-ireland.html

If this isn't the reason have you reported all change of circumstances?

    new partner etc etc
  • Thanks for the link pmlindloo!

yeah i still work in the republic. Maybe they are just doing routine checks to make sure the situation is still the same - I will wait and see if i hear anything back from then!

This is the situation that relates to me - highlighted in red below

Under EU Regulations, the country of employment pays the family benefits even though the family may reside in another EU member state. If both parents are employed in two different countries, the country of residence of the children pays the family benefits and the other State considers a supplement payment. (If you are in any doubt about where to apply , North or South, you should apply in both jurisdictions as this will ensure you apply within the 12 month timeframe.)
A supplement payment is the difference between the total amount of family benefits payable in the UK (Child Benefit + Child Tax Credit) and Ireland (Child Benefit).
