Given the increasing importance of keeping track of expenditure I find it astonishing that since Quicken withdrew from the UK market and the apparent demise of Microsoft Money, no alternatives of any worth have surfaced. That is of course unless you know different. All suggestions welcome!

There are BankTree, AceMoney and MoneyLine, all virtually identical to MS Money, and all previously discussed on this board. Also MS Money still works and can be downloaded for free.0

How's it going with AceMoney Colsten, are you sticking with it?0

YNAB is by the far the best in terms of reviews and like minded people here on MSE.Total Debt Left: £14,843 / £23,954

It's perfectly ok and yes, I am sticking with it. It's much like MS Money, and the migration from MS Money was really easy. Like with every new software, you have to get used to it but even that was easy because it is so similar to MS Money.
I did look into migrating to BankTree as I fancied their mobile app but unfortunately, the migration would take me literally weeks as I have so many accounts.London_Ash wrote: »YNAB is by the far the best in terms of reviews and like minded people here on MSE.
You need to qualify your statement. I would agree that YNAB is really good for people who start out from scratch, and who do not need to track investments.
For anyone who has legacy data in MS Money or in Quicken, and for anyone who wants to monitor their investments, YNAB is literally useless.0 -
I use AceMoney and find it excellent. However, punters who wish to keep track of more than two accounts have to buy the full version for about £26, which some might not think is very MSE.

Nice to "know" another AceMoney user on MSE!
You are right, a usable version costs £26 but I dread to think how much money I would lose if I didn't have a proper way to track my accounts. Also, my peace of mind from having supported software is worth a lot more than £26 :cool:0 -
I'm still using MS Money. It does all I need and it's free. Perfectly MSE!Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

It's quite easy to make your own spreadsheet and I've done one myself in Open Office which monitors a complex arrangement I have with my mother. It also calculates whatever interest you want and is equally usable as a savings account or loan tracker. I'm giving it away for free but you'll have to find a hosting site that fulfills my requirements. I am very familiar with spreadsheets and have programmed complex ones in the past. I can safely say that for a mere £26, I could never create anything that handles over 100 accounts, including the code required for the update of fund and share prices and exchange rates, the various report templates, and has facilities to import and reconcile bank statements.0
