iPad Air v iPad Air 2

Options
Thoughts on which to go for? Bear in mind I currently have an iPad 2 so quite a big improvement whichever I go for. Price is a consideration and don't really want to go over the £360 mark, but would consider if one was massively better, which I don't think it is.

The iPad Air will do you just fine if you are upgrading from a iPad 2.

The iPad 2 has much more processing power than was expected of the model...pointing to future iOS developments like spilt screen.

I have the original Air and it's great - no issues at all.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I've no doubt it'll be much quicker and have a better battery life.

Just unsure about buying new especially with the announcement of the iPad pro, iPad Air 1 could potentially fall
In price in the coming months.

Do you get earphones with a new one?
  • The first one is absolutely fine for purpose. They bring them out at a rate faster than which the tech world needs it, so you will have something overpowered, which you don't need if cost is an issue.

  • You will only get all the features of the new iOS if you have an air 2. Do some research and see if these features are important to you... :(

The main thing for me with the Air 2 is it has twice the ram of the Air 1, the will enable you to keep more browser tabs and applications before the ipad starts killing them and you're forced to reload the tab or app when you switch back to it.

Have you had both? If so, how do they compare in your opinion?

Understand and agree with the comments about the air 2 maybe being too powerful unless using for more high tech stuff. However, I'm also concerned about future iOS updates crippling it as if I'm buying new I want it to last 3 years. Recently updated my iPad 2 to 8.4 and it's slow as hell now. As much as price is an issue, I'd probably go for an extra £100 if it meant having a decent device for an extra 12-18 months, rather than having to upgrade at a much greater cost after a couple of years.

iOS 9 is vastly improved over iOS 8.4.1 (the last, stable release).

I've downloaded it on my Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus and in terms of the 6 Plus performance is much, much better.

There is some lag here and there (to be expected, it's in Beta) but it's definitely what iOS 8 should have been originally.

If you can find an iPad Air (1) at a great price you'll be aOK if you ask me.

In terms of EarPods being supplied with Apple's tablets? AFAIK that's one thing they've never included in the box.
