O/S Daily Friday 11th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, dull, overcast, but dry underfoot and still feeling warmer.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. Tonight will be something similar but I’m not sure what we will be having, but I’ll organise that when I do the food shopping this morning.

I was reasonably productive yesterday, I got all the washing, drying and ironing done, although I have a small load ready to go out on the line. There will be more later, which will be a load of work clothes/school uniform from the menfolk. I stripped our bed and got the bed linen washed, dried and put back into the airing cupboard.

DS1’s car passed the MOT, he’s a happy lad, didn’t like parting with his money though!

I will be heading into town, I need to visit the bank and building society, then do the food shopping.

Have good Fridays’ everyone x

Keep safe and well x

Dry and fine again, yesterday turned into a beautiful day, wall to wall sunshine until it set. Pink sky this morning, hope it's not going to break before 4pm, I have 3 loads of washing on the line!

The cycle home was brilliant but the front brakes began to rub so I am sure I did the last few miles with the brakes on. Must get that looked at!
Have to get the train today and then DD should pick me up, we are hiring a van this afternoon for the weekend as we are moving all her furniture over the weekend.

The painter should arrive today to do the downstairs bathroom. Had a shower upstairs in my brand new posh bathroom last night - so much room in the shower now instead of the little cubicle. Still a few bits to be done in there but it's nearly finished.

Another busy day in store at work but I am loving my new temporary role, the day passes really quickly.

Hurrah for Friday! Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Another lovely start to the day. Can't be,I've we've had such a rotten summer and now a week of great sunshine. Sun is sparkling on the sea and Jura is bright and green.

Yesterday I got the bed linen out and dried in no time. I put them back on the bed as I really enjoy the smell after being dried outdoors. I also did a quick cut if the grass, forecast for next week is light - heavy rain so I wanted a final cut before then. I did plan on going somewhere but I ended up sitting outside my front door instead.

Need to go into town this morning and once home I have to sit and do some banking online, mostly shuffling money around.

MRSLW - how happy you sounded about your borrowed dog, funny how happiness comes in such different sized / shaped bundles.

Camelot - glad you survived the bike ride. Good luck for your DD tomorrow.

Right, off to start my day. I hope everyone has a good Friday.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a lovely morning here with lots of sunshine forecast until teatime when the rain comes in. We have a carnival here tomorrow but it's supposed to be sunny. I hope so as my grand daughter is in it this year. I am hoping my daughter takes lots of photos so I can see her all dressed up.

I have been baking this morning for my friend who is coming over later. I will be making a chicken and leek pie for tea as well. I am just waiting for my shopping to be delivered so I can get on with the filling. I much prefer to cook in the morning when I have some energy although I have been struggling for the past few mornings as I have increased my medication so I can get some sleep. Unfortunately this gives me a hungover feeling for a few hours when I get up. I'm sure I will soon get used to it though.

MrsLurcherWalker, I cried happy tears when I read about your new walking partner. I hope you have lots of happy times with her and how lovely for Cookie to get some long walks.

Max is off to the vets this afternoon for his 6 month check up where he will be booked in for neutering and chipping. He had a bath specially but managed to find something smelly to roll in pretty much straight away. Oh well, we tried :rotfl::rotfl:.

I will be clearing out some cupboards and drawers to put away my Christmas bits. I have two new baking tins of christmas trees and a gingerbread cottage. I am looking forward to using them with some recipes I've found on the internet.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Nice bright day here again have asked dd to being her washing basket down and I will get it done today, its meant to be raining tomorrow.

Got the dentist this morning, just a check up but I know I need two or three fillings, they are old ones I had as a child which have worn out and need replacing, I have four altogether and they have all need replacing this year.

Going to do a lemon and herb chicken breast for dinner with mash and salad, have been craving lemon chicken ! so looking forward to it.

Mrs LW how lovely that you have a new walking friend, I bet he is loving the extra walks xx

Topsy that sounds like a step in the right direction xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

I had it in my head that a dog should learn to walk properly on a short lead, then it'll be safe to use a long lead and eventually progress to being off-lead. The behaviourist said that while there's nothing wrong with that, it won't work for us because Scampi wasn't socialised when he was very young. On a short lead, his fight or flight decision is taken away from him and he feels trapped - so obvious once she'd pointed it out. He's been off-lead a few times now, in a park away from roads, and he's fine when people or dogs turn up. He loves his long lead (I don't like it, the handle is bulky and I can't grip it properly, lol). He has a few doggy mates so has been learning good doggy manners :D

I have a load of towels to go on the line, there's a bit of a breeze and the sun's out so they should dry quite quickly. The plants in pots are looking a bit sorry for themselves, I'll give them a good sort out then scrub the patio. Our tiles have been delivered to the shop, mr tru can go and pick them up, I can have some peace for half an hour :D I haven't planned anything else. Mr tru's days off go like this – Let's do this. No, I need to take the dog out then I have to do X. But it needs doing. Do it then. It's a two person job. It'll have to wait til later. But.... Oh !!!!!! lets just hurry up and get it done then. Then I spend the rest of the day looking forward to tomorrow, when he'll be at work :D

  • Good Morning everyone it's a niceish day here with milky cloud and a bit of breeze but the temperature is comfortable in short sleeves. He Who Knows took Cookie for a nice long walk this morning and had her off lead and she behaved perfectly, no fuss to other dogs/people and came back when she was called. He enjoyed the walk as much as I did yesterday which is super. I got the house clean and tidy while he was out and life feels back to normal, isn't that odd? I'll be taking her at lunchtime and hopefully she'll be fine with Charlie and we'll have many harmonious walks together, I feel renewed, I slept well last night and feel like a weight has lifted off my shoulders and all because some nice people thought of us and a small black and white bundle of curls and shiny eyes, thank heavens for Cookies is what I say!!!

Thank you all for being so kind and being happy for us, you really are super folks and we're lucky to have you in our lives, have yourselves a lovely day, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all,
I had it in my head that a dog should learn to walk properly on a short lead, then it'll be safe to use a long lead and eventually progress to being off-lead. The behaviourist said that while there's nothing wrong with that, it won't work for us because Scampi wasn't socialised when he was very young. On a short lead, his fight or flight decision is taken away from him and he feels trapped - so obvious once she'd pointed it out. He loves his long lead (I don't like it, the handle is bulky and I can't grip it properly, lol).

Now its the other way round with one of my girls. She hates a long lead and cries when we take her off the lead. Apart from her 'sister' she hasnt really had any contact with other dogs and cries when one comes near her. I guess she hasnt been socialized properly but in that case, neither has my other dog and she has to be kept on the lead because she wanders off and loves other dogs. I think its a matter of finding what works for you and Scampi. Walking my two is a nightmare. One cries cause she doesnt want to go home, the other i have to drag because she hates going out. Tried taking them out one at a time but the one who loves to go out howls when i go out without her. She doesnt understand that its not her turn.

Beautiful day here. Beds stripped and bedding being laundered as i type. Nothing planned for the day, just housework.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Good morning - I hope everyone is well? I had a really busy day yesterday blitzing my daughter's bedroom. I couldn't stand to see it in such a mess so now she is back at school I got it sorted. It took me all day but it looks fantastic - for now!!

Today I have been busy washing all the clothes that were scattered about in her room. It's a bright and breezy day today so the should be dry in no time. Off now to make a chilli to put in the slow cooker and then I will be having a sort out in the utility room.

Have a good day everyone x
  • Afternoon ((((((((hugs))))))))))))) if you need one, bad night last night, OH had palpitations and this morning a dizzy, I thought we were past the dizzies at least. He slept fine, I didn't. He is still in bed, said he was going to get up...........when he does I am going back to bed for a couple of hours, spugs done for the wedges tonight, and apple sponge left for dessert, so I can go and rest with a clear conscience. I cancelled our appointment at the chiropodist, re made it for next month.

Nice day, sunny but with a bit of a breeze, sun keeps coming and going.
