Hey Kath, I was wondering where you'd got to! How are you? :)

I gave Ryan's friend's Mum our phone numbers just in case Ryan wouldn't settle, and gave her a very brief explanation of Ryan's difficulties (just the stuff she needs to be aware of). She wasn't phased by it at all, in fact she said her brother was autistic, so she was quite used to dealing with people who have similar issues. Anyway, he's not back yet, so he must have settled in well, and hopefully that means he's enjoying himself.

    I'm trying not to worry...

I've been around, reading lots but not posting much (at all) for some reason. Have felt a bit out of touch since I came back from America. I've applied for the midwifery degree :D and have been asked to go back to camp next year :j and have a job that's boring but they pay me!

That's great that he has a friend whose mum is well informed and open minded, there are unfortunately so many people with no experience/understanding of the autism spectrum. A pity because it only takes small changes, doesn't it.

Hey Snaggles - hope Ryan had a lovely time. it's great that the mum was so open and sorted :)

Where is this thread about the problems/challenges/achievements of aspergers/autistic parents? At our school we have several autistic students and we are just not given enough guidance/pointers on how to get the best out of these students - our SEN coordinator is useless - IMO - and I would be interested in learning more. I've been reading various websites, but it would also be interesting to know what was helpful from the parents point of view.

    He's still not back

I'm just thinking though, the film was at 4.35pm, but there's a good 10 minutes of trailers usually, then the film itself is about 1 hour 50 minutes long, so that would be about 6.35pm-ish, then 15 minutes to get back to his friend's house, so even only allowing 10 minutes to serve the party tea, they wouldn't have been eating until 7pm. So I'm expecting him any time now really.

Is THIS the thread you are looking for Sea? It started as just a quick question about seeing Ryan's birth notes, but I changed the title when it turned into more of an ASD/Aspergers support/discussion thread. I'm really enjoying chatting to other Mums in the same position, so I hope it's allowed to stay, even though it's not actually about money saving.

Wooo, he came back at half past eight - his friend's parents were really apologetic about keeping him up late, but I honestly couldn't have cared less. All I cared about was the happy, excited expression on his face when he came through the door!! :D:D

Getting him to bed has been...errr.....challenging....lol....but we have managed it without a tantrum, although I can still hear him chattering to himself up there.

I feel on top of the world! :j :j
