We hired a rug doctor one from B & Q, the rug doctor was great but DON'T use B & Q we wasted over 4 hours that day between trying to hire it, trying to find someone, anyone, in the store who knew anything about how to hire it and then had a nightmatre trying to return it. They were worse than useless.

If you hire a rug doctor you have to purchase the Rug Doctor cleaning fluid, I found I didn't need as much as they recomended but found the left over fluid was great for cleaning my kitchen floor, didn't have to buy any floor cleaner for a couple of months :D

So you'd all recommend the Rug Doctor? I've got to hire a cleaner soon to do the carpets in my rented flat, and it's a toss up between the Rug Doctor (from Homebase) or one from HSS. Any experience of hiring from Homebase, are they reasonable to deal with? I'd be grateful for any advice!

edit: The instructions for the Rug Doctor look a heck of a lot easier than the HSS one - is it really that simple to use?

I've had the rug doctor. My local Somerfield and dry cleaners hire them out for approx £20-£25 for 24 hours, plus about £7 for the cleaning solution.

It was really easy to use, and brought up the carpets like new, despite them being abused by two messy children and a hairy white dog!

I used the Rug Doctor from Morrrisons. Very good, like N71 says, easy to use, and cleans really well.
