Viewing house before exchange
I've seen it mentioned that people go to have another look before exchange to make sure all is OK. Is a week or few days before exchange just as adequate, I take it you just have to have a reasonable amount of faith that all will be well.
Our survey came back and we might be going to check things on Sat, more to understand what we need to get done not having second thoughts or anything. Turns out we might be able to exchange next week. Am I right to assume Saturday is close enough to have seen it recently? The aim would be no more than a week from exchange to completion.
Thanks

I went to see mine of the morning of the day scheduled for exchange. Then rang the solicitor and said "all ok, go ahead".0

When I went to view mine before exchange it was to take some measurements for furniture - maybe you could say that if you feel like you need a simple valid reason!0

With the amount of money involved, you cannot be too careful and really should view the place just before exchange (and before your building insurance kicks in). A lot of things can go horribly wrong in a very short time.
I have to confess that I last saw my current property more than a month before exchange (and it was only the 2nd time I was there). My own buyer only saw my place once, 6 months before exchanging. There is a shortage of properties around here, but still, that was tempting fate!0 -
I'd advise you to view as close to exchange as possible if the house is empty. We didn't and when we completed we discovered several panes of the front bay window had been smashed a few days before exchange. The vendor refused to pay for the replacement glass despite proof of when the police had the window boarded up.0

Buyers of my house came in to check on morning of exchange, perfectly reasonable, as tenants had moved out and they would want to check they really were out and hadn't done anything to the place. Even with owners you never know - I've heard of owners removing fireplaces and light fittings before exchange. But fortunately that's rare!0

Buyers came around 4 times to measure up rooms for their funiture. Strangely even on the last visit it was obvious to them some of there furniture still wasn't going to fit even after measuring on the second and third visits.
The forth visit was a bit intrusive looking at the same things, we smiled and bit out tongues as there were paying the asking price and we wanted to sell.
We visited twice, second time just to have a look over to make sure this was the house for us, the couple of observations the survey had thrown up and to discover what trees the garden had as we bought in the depths of winter. Turned out to have a couple of nice apple, pear and cob nut trees :T0
