Any breakdown cover with a new car?

Do any manufacturers offer eg. a year's breakdown cover with a new car? Do all of them?

Most do on a brand new car. Some will only issue a policy with a car purchase/service if you actually ask.
  • Definitely know Ford and Volkswagen do.

With other manufacturers, probably best just asking :)

Some do. Some don't. With some it last for the duration of the warranty. With some it lasts only the first X years. For some it covers Europe too, for others it only covers UK. Some will only recover to their local dealer. Others will transport you nationally.

And the coverage varies over time too!

You really are best asking your dealer, or at least state the car and age and someone here has a smidgen of a chance of providing the correct answer.

Considering you can get breakdown cover from around £40 upwards, buying a new car to get breakdown cover is not very MSE.

Or you can check the manufacturer's websites without leaving your chair.

Most do, you just need to check how long.

VW very generously give a year, yet Skoda and Audi, part of the same group will give you three.

Mercedes give three years. Have it serviced at main dealers after the initial three years and the service includes a years cover.

Be very careful about 'roadside assistance'. When I started work I got a car loan for my first car. It included roadside assistance. Not the level of cover I normally had but I didn't think it was worth paying for another policy. I called them out on a rainy winter night to the services on the M6. He wouldn't even look at the car. Just quoted me hundreds to recover me. I decided to carry on driving and he made me sign a disclaimer and left. 'Roadside Assistance' is very basic cover. Make sure you know exactly what it means.
