  • Afternoon all,
Goodness, what a mixed bag of news this morning.
    Thinking of you all....
I've spent a pottering sort of morning in the garden starting the Autunm tidy-up. All the tomato plants have been stripped and the remains in the compost heap. Tomatoes were appalling this year, at least here in the South East.
Have also weeded the sweetcorn bed, cleared away the remains of the slimy lettuces, fed wabbit with dandelion leaves, fed the chickens with slugs, snails and worms and dead-headed some roses. I don't want to tidy everything away for winter as some plants look lovely in the frost and the beds provide cover for hibernating wildlife.
Have emailed Stonehaven library this morning to see if they can find me a copy of my great-Uncle James' obituary. It seems he was a bit of a 'skeleton in the family closet' and nobody ever talked about him. I've discovered that he died with none of his family around him and was buried with his grand-parents rather than his parents. Intriguing stories to uncover, I suspect.
Will have a sit in the garden in a moment with a cup of tea and some knitting. I'm working on one of those 'granny square' blankets for the winter - only about another million to go!!!
Don't know what to do for dinner yet - I've got plenty of sliced ham from a small gammon joint so maybe something with pasta. I'm craving roast dinners though at the moment, what with the weather turning so autumnal.
    Have a good day folks.
    Lilli
P.S. Lovely news about your walking companion Mrs. L!!!

  • Adventures with the Cookie Monster

Just been for our first walkies, she's not very well schooled but by the time we came home she was walking to heel and I'd taught her 'wait' at the kerb and 'cross' for a clear road. She met a schnauzer who loved her, she's good with other dogs and my friend Folly the retriever in her garden who came to say hello and was just a bit big for Cookie, but 10 minutes getting to know each other meant wagging tails and calm dogs. We did an hour and a half along the footpaths and back along the lanes, she's not used to unexpected noises like the concrete mixer on a building site but didn't react at all when someone was shooting nearby, I think we can work together well. I feel whole again for the first time since Docky went away and it's a beautiful feeling. Tomorrow we'll walk with my friend Sue and Charlie the retriever and see how Cookie is with him, he's a gentle boy and she should be fine with him once they know each other. I even managed to get her back across the car park and into the bar walking to heel, result I think. Looking forward to tomorrow very much indeed!

Its been a really lovely day after a cloudy start, the sun came out and its been quite warm.

Its been a relax a day for me. I did a load of laundry, got it dried and aired, so most of it is folded and waiting to be put away.

OH was at the bowls this afternoon, I have spent the afternoon sitting and reading, apart from getting the laundry in, I have done nowt.
