O/S Daily Thursday 10th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, dull, overcast, but dry underfoot and air feels warmer than over the last couple of days.

DH and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was LO roast lamb, sausages, LO mash, LO roasties, LO Yorkshires, carrots, broad beans, peas, and gravy – all eaten and enjoyed, it was fortunate that I had the packet of sausages that needed using up as there really wasn’t as much meat left as I’d first thought, I just had sausages instead of the meat, everything was delicious, all eaten and no waste. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost, so tonight we’ll be having chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, veg and gravy.

Yesterday at work was steady, I was a bit late leaving so had to rush as I had a dentist appointment, just had a clean and check up.

Today I have loads to do, so will be a busy day and it also looks like a better day with the weather, so want to get as much washing done and get it line dried. I have some in a basket ready to put out shortly. I’m going with DS1 to his work this morning, dropping him off, then coming home in his car, will then drop it to the garage at 8am, they will bring me home, and then I can get on with my day, before going back to his work to meet him out of work at 4pm to take him back to the garage to collect his car.

Have Thursdays’ everyone x

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning All

Dry again, think it will stay that way until tomorrow, hope so as I am taking my bike to work today. Will take it on the train to work and cycle home as I am not in a rush to get back. It's 9 miles home and I can go all the way on the cycle track by the canal and river. If I'm not here tomorrow, call for help!

Topsy - You need to get help from professionals for your DS. Big hugs to you.
Mrs LW - What lovely news and what a lucky little dog!
LW - Have a lovely break away.

DW emptied, not enough washing for a load and the house is reasonably clean and tidy - probably because DD is away visiting her Grandparents! Dinner last night was stir fried veg, gosh I needed some greens! Not been able to cook very much this past week with going up to DDs flat in Glasgow most evenings, we've been grabbing something on the way home about 9pm - not good for the insides!

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning all and thank you all for your good wishes. I wasnt in a mood for posting yesterday after unexpected events on Tuesday night.

Hospital update and I'll try and make it brief although much was discussed this time. To fully understand you have to know about neuro-endocrine tumours which act differently to other tumours and are quite rare - but I won't go into that now!

They have come up with what they think is the problem with Mr TA not being able to eat. The blood vessels surrounding the original tumour (which was in too dangerous a position to remove) have narrowed and he has to have a special scan to confirm it. If so a stent would help. Meanwhile he has to take a small dose of oral morphine before meals and see if that helps. He is tolerating it well so far and did seem to eat bigger meals yesterday.

Because of the rapid weight loss through not eating he has been given 300 cal nutritional drinks to have between meals to build him up and he has to eat a full fat diet!!

The blow was that NICE has stopped the funding of the PRRT monthly radiotherapy treatment he was due to start. They are fighting the decision. Meanwhile he is back on the Lanreotide monthly injections he was on before. They didn't shrink the tumours as they'd hoped but did seem to halt growth a little, as well as giving other benefits. So we hope he'll soon feel a bit better for them.

We sat down Tuesday evening after tea to discuss the day's events etc when at 8.00 pm my mobile rang. DS's GF from hell. He was working and I thought she was ringing to see how the day had gone. Not so, I was faced with a torrent of anger and abuse which I had done nothing to warrant. She was slurring and obviously drunk. I said we'd had a hell of a day and didn't need this and cut her off. She rang again so I turned my phone off absolutely shaking. Next DS rang on the house phone from work apologising for her (she'd rung him also) and he sounded at his wits end. He has made allowances/excuses for her for years but she will neither admit to a problem or seek help so he says he's had enough. so for now he is back home. He went up for some clothes yesterday morning to find she had smashed up the new big screen tv they recently bought! I really hope he doesn't go back to her. He irrational anger is because, after 5 years, he won't commit to the relationship and marry her! Heaven forbid!! She is a problem we can do without just now. Last night she texted me offering profuse apologies etc and saying she was out of order. I didn't even reply.

Meanwhile life goes on and we have the 3 DGDs sleeping before today's school run. As well as DS, so a house full! They will be to be woken up next as I can't do with a rush!

Have a good day all (((((HUGS)))) if needed and take care xx

    Morning everyone.

Blue skies here again though yesterday was decidedly cooler than in recent times. Think I'll risk a white load of washing.

TA - I'm so glad to see you posting, even if your news is rather mixed. My late father had a stent put in when his tumour began to grow ( different cancer) and it certainly gave him a much better quality of life for a prolonged period. I really hope that the new feeding regime stays good! As for the GF, walk away and forget her.

My teaching session last night was really challenging, in a good way. The group wanted to learn about storage media and saving files etc. they all worked hard to understand though I've said we'll do it again next week.

Today once the washing is done and out I think I'll go out for a drive / walk. It's forecast to be too nice to stay indoors.

There's porridge for breakfast and some spaghetti bog for later but I'll leave out the spaghetti.

I hope everyone has a good day. And that Camelot makes it home safe and sound!

    Morning

TA big hugs , you are having a tough time right now xx

    camelot safe cycling xx

Day off for me today in fact I have a few days off now :j. I need it , work is very stressful and I just need some time away .

Taking dd2 shopping today for her birthday present I think she would like a watch so we will see what there is , might have lunch out too :D

The house needs a good sort out too , I should have time this week , I don't know how it gets so messy . I want to go through my kitchen cupboards and streamline them a bit . I'm trying to be more aware regarding waste particularly plastic and I'm refusing , reusing and recycling better , the black bin was only a half full this time which is an improvement as normally I'm pushing the contents down to squeeze more in , :o

Right off for a shower. Have a good day everyone xx
  • TA - I hope they have found the problem, sounds like you got a lot of questions answered just sorry to hear about the funding. Grrr to the GF, something you could well do without.

MrsLurcherwalker That's fab :T I'm expecting lots of doggy tales :D

topsy I hope you're OK? Will the school be able to offer any help, or maybe write a report to support you and your son when you see a GP about it? I hope you get help quickly x

TravellingAbuela I'm glad there's some good news. I really hope the funding come through. Is it possible that a different health authority will fund it? You hear about treatments being available in some areas but not others, not sure if that applies here? As for the GF – master tru had one like her, it didn't end well. Hopefully you'll never hear from her again.

The swelling on my eye went down during the day but has come up again overnight, it's not as itchy though. It's a bit red, it looks like I've been in a fight, lol.

Scampi is back to his usual bouncy self, I've been annoying him by checking his paw every few minutes during play :D It's almost healed but he skidded on the patio a few times so I thought he might've scraped the new skin a few times but its fine.

I'm quite pleased with my new blanket, I've been taking my time with it because it's not a stitch I'm used to. I should have it finished by the end of the weekend, then I'll fold it in various ways, drape it over various chairs and take a few photos before (hopefully) deciding that yes, I really do like it so I'll make some to sell. If not, I'll add a very wide border and keep it for myself :D

Yesterday's pottering has left me with not much to do today, I ended up getting a lot done without planning to. The first load of washing has almost finished, I'll put another load in when it's done. I have a bit of paperwork to do and the lounge needs dusting, but that's it.

  • TRU - re funding. Yes they are applying to Liverpool as Leeds and Manchester definitely not an option for new patients, just patients who are already on it. I despair of the NHS I really do.

Just caught up on posts I've missed. TOPSY I hope school can sort something out re DS. LAMEWOLF hope you have a lovely break up here in Yorkshire. I'll give you a wave if I see you! xx

    TA

The drinks were great for getting protein and calories into DH but after a while he got a bit fed up so I used to sneak a neutral flavour into a little home made soup and DD used to make him a "milk shake" with one of the drinks, some milk and blended fruit.

Crossing fingers that treatment can happen elsewhere. Could PALS help?
