Recommendations for 1st family holiday abroad

My children are 6 and 10 and we would like to go abroad for the very first time next year.

I have looked on a few websites and am totally daunted by the sheer choice of apartments/hotels etc. I am extremely nervous about staying someone unhygienic or totally unsuitable.

Ideally we would like a short flight time and transfer time. So I guess that means somewhere like Majorca, Portgual or similar. I would really like to travel from Bournemouth airport if possible as that is much closer to home than Gatwick.

Can anyone recommend a resort/hotel that has been tried and tested? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks from an anxious potential traveller!!!

I love Majorca. lots of family friendly resorts in the north and east. would tend to avoid the magaluf/palma nova areas if you are looking for quiet beach holiday for young kids. Alcudia, porto pollensa, cala d'or, Sa coma...beautiful beaches, short flight, transfers to most resorts under an hour, cant go wrong really.

  • There is a sticky at the top of this travel forum which has links to lots of travel review websites like http:\\https://www.holidaysuncovered.co.uk
If you like the look of a resort, you can look up reviews of both the resort and the accomodation available in that resort. Sites like that are a complete godsend.

Check out the Eurocamp, Keycamp etc. brochures for great hols in France etc. Stay in a ready errected tent or luxury caravan. They have kids clubs etc. Very popular with families and lots of choice, and you can drive rather than fly.

Fiesta hotels are usually good for kids that age. Get a Thomsons superfamily brochure to give you ideas.

www.clubpollentia.com We have been 4times and are about to book for next year. Thomas Cook, First Choice and I think Sovereign stay there. Club Pollentia is between Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia.
