There's nothing wrong with most of Howdens kitchens - except for the very basic ones. I briefly worked for MFI & was a kitchen planner, which is why I might know some Howdens employees. My brother also worked for them before he set up on his own, taking their best fitters/tradesmen + adding extra excellent ones. Nowt wrong with their Schreiber range kitchens, which is basically what Howdens sell - they were all part of the same company.

DIY kitchens seem to have a good reputation & their prices are easily available. Far more choice than Howdens too. I'm not going to pay for a top of the range German kitchen in my 80's semi BUT am going to have all the little accessories that make a normal kitchen into a really good use-able one.

80% markup is ridiculous & then there are sales that bring them down etc. etc.

    My kitchen cost me

    MDG £20 - auction
    Doors £30 - auction
Iroko £110 - off the dock
    Door handles £10 - auction
Flooring - tiles which they dropped when they delivered them, so they sent us another lot FOC (which did the conservatory)
    Wall tiles - home made

Although I have to admit I have seen some good Howden's kitchens and my next kitchen may be from them (subject to a flipping good deal!)

Mr TM forgot to hand over his loyalty card when he brought the prosecco and the barman said he couldn't add the points on. He said we would have to ring up:o

Considering that mr TM had been in training for years he's letting the side down badly:o

New points to be claimed on Greenredeem...worth doing...there might be future coupons to be had:T

Got my 20 points on Dorset Cereal which means I can claim £1 off....probably generic so should be able to use on all Dorset stuff.

Oh yes.....nearly forgot to mention. Filled up at S today....it was like Christmas getting all those points:T

Can anyone see them doing a Christmas double up boost thing with nectar? Might not happen with all these points knocking around.

My main worry is finding a good/excellent builder. My dad was a 'proper' builder and I can still tell the houses he built from others built by not proper tradesmen. I REALLY wish I'd had all I needed done when I ran the accommodation bureaus as I knew all the good tradesmen then - In a previous position I used to be in charge of managing builders and ordering up everything they needed. This however was over 20yrs ago so I don't have the contacts nowadays & the ones I did have I would think are mostly retired now.
RatedPeople.com is pretty good for finding reliable, cost-effective tradespeople, if you don't know anyone by the word-of-mouth route. I've used it a couple of times in the past and been pleased with the results. Just specify the kind of work you want doing (can be any job small or big), and tradespeople will quote on the job; website also gives guide prices as to what the quotes should be. Tradespeople are also rated by their previous customers on the website (bit like fleabay) so you can instantly see if they're getting good feedback or not.
