Sadly, I don't see the method of refund as being reasonable. I don't want to deal with Next again after this experience. So having £230 in vouchers means I'm out of pocket because of their incompetence.
    That's not right.
You certainly would not be out of pocket if you accepted the £230 vouchers as part of the refund.
You started with £230 of vouchers, and you finish up with £230 of vouchers.
Whether you use them or not is up to you.

Have you read Next's refund policy?

It is not clear what sort of voucher you tendered, but if it is a Gift Card, eVoucher or Refund Card then their T&Cs clearly state for each of those:
The card/eVoucher is not for re-sale and cannot be exchanged for cash.

Even if you used some other voucher, I am certain there will be a similar clause.
  • A lot of their stuff is made in and shipped from China, they have back orders hence the long wait, I waited that long for two small glass top side tables. Perhaps they have stopped making your Sofa or the contract with that company has ended so they cannot get stock.

Having waited 9 weeks and then a cancellation is very annoying indeed but unfortunately there is nothing much you can really do about it I would say without causing yourself unnecessary agro.....move on, you'll find something better.

Have I missed something here, I thought you said it was £300 in vouchers?

Then get the vouchers back and ask your guests to exchange them for cash.

    Or would that be unreasonable?

What makes you think that Next would refund the original purchasers for the vouchers?

Or if you are suggesting the the OP gives back vouchers that cannot be returned and asks for cash from the giver, that's beyond unreasonable, it would be gauche and extremely rude.

I'm surprised you even need to ask.

Yes, I agree that it would be unreasonable to expect the guests to cough up cash instead.

But no more unreasonable than to expect Next to do the same when Next have clearly stated that they effectively have no cash value.

This is one reason why vouchers are daft. They force the recipient to shop at a particular place and have conditions.

Universal vouchers which can be spent almost anywhere are a far better gift. They're available from banks and cashmacines.

My point has gone straight over your head!

Had you bothered to read the thread you would see I already stated it was unreasonable to expect the retailer to refund the vouchers as cash, but the OP disagrees. So, if they feel it reasonable to ask Next to refund vouchers as cash, why not the original donors? I feel both would be rude, but the OP does not share my viewpoint.
