Diminished value claim for BMW?

3rd party can't write off car as it's not theirs. Only own insurance would do that. Assuming you are claiming direct through other drivers insurance as it sounds like liability is straight forward?0

If the car is a write off (but is being repaired) you can't claim for Diminution in value.
If the car has been assessed as economically repairable and repairs take place then an independent engineers report will be needed to establish the degree of diminution, taking into account the make, model, year, mileage and the nature of repairs. The engineer would need to physically inspect the car and will also need to see the repair invoice.
usual range of figures for diminution (assuming it is not just something like a light cluster or a new bumper) would be between 7-15% of the pre-accident value of the vehicle. This also assumes the car has not been a previous Cat C or D total loss.
Here is the firm of engineers I instruct for Diminution reports together with some info about this item of claim.
